A couple of years ago I auditioned for Berklee School of Music and played an improv that I ended up recording later of "Since I've Been Loving You" by Led Zeppelin focusing more on the guitar solo. I did receive a scholarship after playing my rendition but I never did take advantage of it which I'm sure I'll regret in the future. I did have a short clip on my profile but just added the full song. 7 minutes is long for a guitar solo but the fingers just kept going for some reason. It's called "Ode To Jimmy Page"

F*cking "A," man. Great job, that is a brilliant piece you got there. Great soloing (Love the Wah), I wish I could pull something off like that, dang. You have a lot of talent.

By the way, I saw in your equipment list that you had a Marshall JCM 2000 Dual Super Lead, how is that amplifier? I have been looking into getting that exact model.

Ummm, I hate to tell you this.. But I think you need some lessons.



I'll tell you what man.. Come to Vegas. I'll show you a few chords. Your fingers might hurt a little at first. But you'll get used to it. I'll show you an "A" and a "C" a "G" and a "E" chord. And you can maybe get started from there.

Then after a few months when you have those down.. Oh, who am I kidding?

Good Lord why did you ignore that one? I have a good pal who is an alumnus of that school and he later became one of the most well known Windham Hill recording artists - Russel Walder, on oboe.

Why in the world would have let that one go?

Jimmy, I live in a little waterfront community about 40 minutes north of Tacoma.

Guitaranatomy. it's a great amp. I use it more for my heavy stuff like rock and metal along with my Les Paul. I use a 1972 Fender Twin Reverb and a Fender Strat when playing my blues stuff at the local joints. I also use a Line 6 when practicing and playing some shows also.

Irminsul, it's a long story and one that my father will not let me forget. I did spend a week visiting Berklee College this past summer along with a visit to M.I. in LA. I really liked M.I. as it was pretty laid back and I really liked the instructors. My schooling is an on going battle with my family right now.

Thanks man, that is what I thought. I figured judging from what I have heard about the JCM2000 that it was for metal and stuff that is a bit heavier. So I had a feeling you used the Fender Twin Reverb on the blues tracks. Great recording, man. That is very inspiring for people, it made me want to play the blues more.

It is always funny for me with the blues, I get in the mood for it and try and learn some stuff, then sometimes it is too hard and I drift away.

Let me tell you something, and I think everyone would agree with me, if I needed a guitarist and just heard that recording from you, I would hire you flat out.

You are a great musician.

First off I must say you are a killer guitarist, great tone, youve got that Stevie Ray thing happening on your other tunes. But since this is a musicians site I dont want to blow smoke up your azz, you already know you are good.

The Zep, man I love that song, but for me your version is pretty lame. I listened to the whole thing and not once did you back down and play the little turn around. Its one of the coolest things about that song and you just played right over it. I know you are just showcasing your abilitys and you are a great player, but if I was in a club I would probably leave after a couple of songs. You can obviously play circles around me in the blues vein, but I found this song to get old real fast. I just dont feel any real emotion to it.

I see you are 21 or so it says, and I know at 21 I was a gunslinger too. I live in Memphis which has a lot of blues bands playing at any given time and any night you can find a couple of guitarist playing just like you.

Of your songs I liked the slow one the best, you really bite into the notes and sustain them. But then at the end you start showing off your ability to play the blues pentatonic scale again. Sometimes in blues its what you dont play that makes the difference, not what you play.

I hope you dont take this as negative, I would just want you to think about what you are playing next time and where the blues really comes from the next time you play in front of someone. I never was good at the blues because Im too positive about things, I had an old blues guy tell me that once years ago. He said you know all the notes and tricks but you just dont feel it. I kind of get that from you, I just cant feel by listening where the blues is coming from.

As I said before great tone, great wah, great riffs. You are a really good player. Good Luck.

Thanks again guys! jw123, thanks for the feedback. I appreciate the critique. I'm not really a straight blues player. I would say it's more of a Blues Rock type style. I don't read music but play by ear. The Jimmy Page thing was an improvisation and was not meant to be a note for note cover of Jimmy's solo so I do accept and respect that you didn't like my version. Actually I haven't even looked at the tabs for the song. The tunes I have here on BandMix are not what I play on stage and are nothing more than guitar solos to promote my abilities when it comes to the guitar and definitely has some noodles thrown in so even I would walk out of a club after a couple of these. Take care.

I don't quite see it the same. I enjoyed every minute of everything on your profile. And I definitely wouldn't walk out of one of your gigs.. But then, I was never really a gun-slinger. I've never been capable of doing anything close to that.

Like the great Adam Jones once said, " I simply don't have the dexterity". So I'm always completely amazed by guitarists who can do what you do. Maybe I'm just easily amused, but I'd like to think that isn't the case.
