have you ever posted a question at the Microsoft Community? do you ever get a quick response? if at all?.. well, I do not think Microsoft has their sharpest knives in the drawer responding to valid questions to broken Windows systems if you will.. my problem is a security update for .NET 2.0, specifically, KB2844285 update that will download but refuses to install..anybody else having problems with Windows Updates?.. the little yellow MS shield icon always stays in the tray looping because it will not install the update..I have tried many things to fix this, and have never had troubles before..have XP

no, I don't trust some of those guys.. 10 crackers comes to mind..

I need the .NET service to operate my Canon printer or so Canon says, it is a bloated conglomeration in which I wish I knew what would be safe to delete at least parts of the Canon bloatware, without effecting the ability of my printer to print correctly..

I would uninstall .Net 2.0 and reinstall it. Removing parts of software can be dangerous as you have discovered.

I believe gtzip might be a coder too..not that it matters, but did not know if you had the ability to do a remote sassistance? maybe you could look into my system and see maybe an error or corrupted file, you could fix remotely?.. thanks the same, jimmie, you are one of the best people on this board..

I use StackOverflow a lot myself. Just learning a new programming language (to me) called Ruby - pretty nifty language if you are geeky enough. And back to Java - which looks a lot different since I descended into the black hole of project management.

I'm very happy to be getting back to real work instead of trying to get second raters to do first rate work! (I buried my PMP in the back yard)

Hey Mike if you're learning about Ruby I'm sure you will hear about Rails, it makes web development a much faster and easier process than .Net. We have applications written in both platforms. I'm currently learning the MVC pattern with C# and Angular, a Javascript library.

Bingo - I've got Rails set up on my W7 machine. I tried to install Ruby Steel to do the .net stuff but couldn't get it to work.

I'm descending (or ascending, depending upon pov) into Linux now with a Centos distro set up on a VM.

It's all pretty intimidating - I haven't done much programming in the last nine years and I'm playing catch-up with a room full of rocket scientists but I'm having a blast. We're about to tackle a new project with a database called Netezza.

Everything is new - every day!

Ruby on Rails is certainly a viable candidate for web development.

I work at a company where we are essentially a .NET shop. I can honestly say, having worked in software development for 15+ years, I have never worked on a more pleasant and productive technology stack than the .NET MVC3 stack. With Visual Studio IDE and ReSharper, I've just never been more productive, or had more fun doing my job every day.

I've (lightly) delved into Ruby and Rails, and I'm sure if I had to make the switch for career reasons I could do so without problems (languages are just tools in the toolbelt, after all). But right now I am enjoying .NET and MVC. I get work done, I get it done fast, and I make clients happy. That gives me a warm fuzzy.. and pays the bills.

I loved C# and .NET when I took it for a ride - years ago. C# and the class library were IIRC, done by Anders Hejlsberg who brought us Delphi - which was VB for grownups.

Then I got roped into project management and my IQ dropped significantly. My looks failed me too. Now all I have left is my personality. That means I'm utterly f**k!
