Do both..don't limit yourself.

And don't worry about what people say, half of them are just bitter because they play guitar and still can't cut the mustard, so you'll be a target no matter what you do.

You know the tunes. You have experience. You'll look like a find to just about anyone wanting to play similar stuff that you do.

Just go around and play.
I am sure someone is watching you to see if they can scoop you while you are slightly separated from your old band. (buzzards always circle)

Have you seen any local bands lately you thought you might like to play with? Go see em. Talk to everyone. Mention you are shopping a new situation.

If I were you, I'd go to that thing the guy is advertising for in TN.
You might be surprised at what and who you run into.
The rest is how you play that night and I get impression that you are a "any given Sunday" type, meaning you're going to bring it even if it's a blue moon on a leap year.

Just make it count.

This is indeed getting weird, I just had a guy contact me who is the drummer for a local band named No Control, evidently a year or two ago I sat in with another band he played in. Well since Im getting divorced again I changed my damn FB profile to one with me and my guitar, and he calls and says he just saw that pop up and they are looking at changing guitarist. Have about 25 gigs booked between now and the end of the year, playing all around here, and even a couple in Dallas and Houston.

I guess the stars are kind of aligning in some way for me musically.

Sounds like they play more of what Im most accustomed too.

See? What WERE you THINKING, JW?

A good, experienced guitarist is hard to find.

And one that works together in a team situation? wow.
A great addition to any solid band.

Yea, but they play out of town down around Dallas and Houston, have to be on the road for those weekends, I took on another job in the fall to where I cant travel like that, plus Im going the end of Sept and the first of Oct to Germany with my son, so Im probably gonna just have to let this one go, man if they just stayed local I could probably swing it, but I cant committ to that schedule with my lifestyle.

You end up in Dallas or Houston you'd better damn sure let me know when and where.
I don't do clubs . . . but I've been know to make exceptions for good reasons.

Jeff Im not sure the name of the venues they play, but they have some connections and plya down that way a few times a year.

I actually havent heard them, they sent a songlist, which I could be playing at thier next gig to be honest, nothing hard on there, the most out thing was Limelight by Rush, which I played years ago, good ole crunchy rock music, but the main guy plays guitar sings and what Ive found out does most of the leads.

Now the bad part, I two years ago took up a fall time job, that pretty much means I have to stay tied close to home from mid sept til thanksgiving, Im also going to Germany for a couple of weeks, to get my son set up in college over there and also hang out for a bit.

SO the economic reality of my situation, the side job I got , pays me 25K for about 3 monthes work. Doesnt interfer with my other work, Ive got that all covered and been doing it the last couple of years. From what the guy that contacted me said, when they go to Dallas or Houston he basically makes enough to cover his expenses for being there, but it sounds like when they do this they go for a couple of days. I said what is your average pay for gig, he said $100 a man, no better than what im used too.

So lets wiegh this on the scale take on a band job that will pay me $2500 for 25 shows, or work my normal fall gig for $25,000.

Im not stupid.

So I guess you guys can see what Im gonna do, or what I have to do.

OK wait a minute...Memphis to Houston for 100 bucks a night? Not a chance...if I'm playing fairly local, OK 100 a night is doable but if I have to travel more than about 2 hours, the money better get a lot better...especially with gas over $3.50 a gallon...I quit a band in Louisiana, or was replaced without telling me actually, but was more than ready to quit and had told him so, because they wanted me to drive 4 hours to a gig and make $50. Ok so I drive 4 hours there, 4 hours back, 4 hours onstage, load and unload time, something to eat twice, guitar strings, by the time I get home at 7AM falling asleep at the wheel I'm DOWN 15 bucks...(gas was still under $2 a gallon) I told him get better money or I'm outta here. He replaced me and never said a word to me about it. I found out by driving by a club I knew we were booked and finding "featuriing****" on their sign and it was NOT my name...

I have to say I can't blame you if you turn this one down, Memphis to central Texas is around an 8 hour drive, if it pays less than $300 plus expenses, it's not worth it.

But if you do get to this neck of the woods George and I will both be looking for you if you don't let us know...we're both not far away...
