Had a pretty good time...
Got a call from the guys I played guitar with here years ago, they wanted to record something so I said I'm in. Showed up around 5:30 last night, rainstorm hit on the way there and knocked out power so we sat down with acoustics and a kerosene lamp to doodle around a little. Knew what song they wanted to record, and we decided to practice it a while and get things together and do the actual recording later. As opposed to the way we did it the last couple of times, one quick run through and set the mics up...
It ended up being a pretty good practice/jam session, mostly acoustic. Played the one we want to record several times, worked out a few trouble spots and in between went through around 15 other songs, practiced a bit on a couple and just had fun with most of them.
I brought the Fender Champ, which I fixed recently it's working great now and sounds better than ever. They hadn't heard it so I brought it in (lights came back on about a half hour after we started) and plugged in the Squier Strat and we did a few with electric too, then went back to all acoustic. Alan has an Alvarez acoustic bass that sounds great, Shane was using a Ovation 12 string, I had my trusty Takamine.
All in all we had a good time, and should be getting together again before long to try and record a little. Also kicking around the idea of playing a local coffee house, and concentrated on acoustic stuff we can do in that venue.
Heart of the Matter - Don Henley
Crazy love - Poco
Rose of Cimmaron - Poco
Heart of the Night - Poco (maybe)
Legend - Poco (maybe)
Southern Cross - CSN
Sandman - America
Riverside - America (another maybe}
Ventura highway - America (another maybe)
Already Gone - Eagles
And several others, I can't remember everything but we wrote down a song list. We played all those plus some, my fingers are sore...been a long time since I did that much acoustic...
Just thought I'd share, we've talked about getting together to record several times since I moved back, hard to get schedules to mesh, but after having that much fun without beer and drugs maybe we'll be getting together a little more soon...It was a blast. We've played together for a long time, but not much in the past 10 years, adn it only took about 15 minutes to get back to the old know what each other will do before they do it mode...make mistakes and laugh at each other and still not lose the song...go back over the vocals at a certain spot without even counting it off...
I think I can handle some more of this...
EDIT - I remembered a couple of others...
South City Midnight Lady - Doobies
Rockin Down the Highway - Doobies
Hotel California - Eagles
