Yes, the long-awaited return of Fisherman Bob & The Bluefin Tuna Band at Forster's in Olathe (on Old 56 Highway just off I-35 South one exit south of Santa Fe) is happening March 4 at 9:00 p.m. Come check out new guitarist, Gary Schmack, who's a longtime veteran of the Kansas City blues scene, now joined up with those fishy blues guys. A good time will be had by all. :D :D :D

That gig was a long time ago. The gig went well as usual. That bar had to close after the city of Olathe instituted a smoking ban. The bar immediately lost about 40% of its business. They tried to reopen as a private club but their landlord wouldn't allow it. It's a shame, it was a great place to play. I'm going on the radio this Thursday at 3:30 pm for a half-hour. It's 90.1 KKFI, I believe they have streaming audio on the web (KKFI.org?) They're going to play some of the tunes I have loaded on my Bandmix profile page. I'm participating in their band auction. People listening to the program will bid on having us do a 2 hour gig, in exchange they send the radio the money they bid and I get a half hour of airtime. Works for me. I did it last year. We got the radio station $250. Right now I'm in the midst of interviewing guitar players as our last guitar player literally disappeared. Tried e-mailing him, telephoning him, no response. I might have pissed him off somehow. Anyway how are you doing? Are you playing with anybody? Gigging? I'm looking to getting the audio on my computer fixed so I can listen to most everybody's music they have on their Bandmix profile pages. I'm not much of a computer geek. I probably should take a few weeks off and learn more about computers. It's got to help me with my music and day gig (I restore cabinets for a living). Anyway thanks for the interest. I enjoy reading your posts. Good luck. Later...

Bob,
I had to put the line down pretty deep to find this ol' sucker of a post! Anyways, I thought we should have a thread where we could discuss fishin' and the blues apart from the current "pissin matches"going on elsewhere on this site.

First, I gotta tell ya I disdain smoking cigarettes , However, when I contract to play a club, beerjoint, or whatever, I have always accepted the fact that other people like to smoke , and if nonsmokers don't like it, then they shouldn't be in the place. Take note that I have a different opinion when it comes to restaurants, or places where children could be subjected to "second hand smoke". Closing down a good blues venue because of this sounds like a unnecessary loss of freedom to me.

about fishin',

I don't do much fishing these days. My bass playing son Ry inherited my dads love of fly fishing. I did go deep sea fishing with my long lost papy many years ago. It was my first and last trip out in the Atlantic. Seas were choppy an I caught one stinkin' mackerel and found out why they say "you should never puke into the wind"

My wife is yelling for me to come to supper,(and she's a good cook) so I'll have to continue this later.

John

*He pokes his head out of the shadows*

Actually, I have never gone fishing. No one ever took me, lol. We do not fish in my family. I mean of course there is a whole ocean to fish in, but, *Shrugs*.

And by the way, I have been working on blues stuff lately! I plan on posting something bluesy when I get my amp, so I am writing at the moment.

Peace out, GuitarAnatomy.

When people start dabbling in blues, some of them start to spontaneously develop the blues glands. These mysterious glands start emitting blues hormones into the body, and then you start playing more blues. You begin to research and gather as many old blues albums and CD's you can afford. You "discover" a few old blues musicians that stuimulate more blues hormones. Then you want to find vintage instruments and amps to give you the old blues tones. When playing these old instruments you further stimulate the release of more blues hormones, and pretty soon you become a bluesman. Don't worry guitarantamoy, this is quite a normal reaction of your growing body. Millions of people are in various stages of blues gland development. It may not cause you to abandon other genres of music, but will make you an overall better guitarist. Have fun with it. Later...

When I was a lad, First day of trout season was a very big event around here. The Broadhead Creek was once one of the finest trout streams in the nation. My pals and I used to camp out along the creek the night before to assure a good spot for fishin'. I really enjoyed raisin' hell around the ol' camp fire, but by the time dawn broke, I was always to tired to fish!

G.A.

If I was a rich man, I'd buy us some tickets to fly out to Uncle Bob's place too do some fishin' and then a little acoustic blues jammin' around the camp fire. A necessary rite of passage in my opinion.

 Thanks, Uncle Howlin. I think it would be fun, why not, do a bit of fishing, and then do a bit of fiddling on the ol' guitar.

Nothing like some blues to get the spirit going.

I was an outdoor person from when I was very young. When I was about ten years old I was exploring the town swimming hole which was being drained in the Spring to get it ready for Summer. I saw one of my friends fishing and asked him how to do it. He showed me and then handed me the pole and I tried it. I caught a couple of catfish and I was hooked. I came home and asked my father to buy me a rod and reel. He couldn't believe it and asked where I learned to fish. " My friend Larry taught me today and I want to do it." The next day I had a new rod and reel and I've fished like crazy ever since. By the way GA my parents are retired and live in Boynton Beach, not far from you. I hope to visit them soon. Maybe by then I'll come out and see you jamming at some blues club. Later...

Lol. Boynton Beach? Wow, that is very close to me. I have been there many times, in fact I use to live there. I have lived all over this county, from Boca Raton, to Delray, to West Palm Beach (Where I am now), to Palm Beach Gardens, and so on and so forth.

Yeah, maybe we will see each other in some blues club someday, that would be awesome. Hopefully I can actually figure out how to make this instrument sound good by then.

I will try fishing one day, maybe it will be relaxing. God knows sometimes I need to relax, my mind moves a bit too fast you could say.

Peace out, GuitarAnatomy.

There's a few fish in there (not the best place I ever fished). It's free to fish since it's on private property. Anyway maybe I'll let you know when I can get down there and if you want to get together and fish let me know. Oh yeah, and talk music. Later...

That's cool, Fisherman Bob.

Hopefully by then me and my friend will have a band put together. I would have more experience and be a better guitarist. As for the fishing, I know junk about that, lol. Plus I do not like killing things, so it is going to take some time to talk me into the fact that the fish does not know the difference.

Peace out, GuitarAnatomy.
