Hope the SG is balanced - I've found that on most the neck seems to be heavier than the body, so is always trying to point 'down' (Tele semi-hollow bodies are the same way).

My LP Goddess is neck heavy like that.
Takes some getting used to.

I think the SG is the ultimate guitar...period. The craftmanship to the sound are unrivaled. My only complaint is the rumors of several headstocks breaking too easy when dropped.

Those 90 versions of the SG are some of the best made. Goes well with heated, high gain tubes...

Congrats JimmyD

SG is a great guitar. I used to cringe thinking of Townsend smashing all those SG juniors.

My own SG adventure was in the mid seventies - a delux with cherry sunburst, Grovers - truly one of the best looking guitars I ever owned. I bought and sold a lot in those days though - it was always fat or lean times and keeping a working bass guitar was what mattered most to me then.

I never quite liked the SG sound as much as Fender though. I'll admit that Les Paul is probably the ultimately best sounding out of the box guitar but mostly Fender owns it for me.

I liked the tone(s) of the SG's I've seen, but the neck is like playing a LP.

If you like the LP neck, you're set provided the electronics are set up like they should be.

I'm excited, sounds like you are getting a GOOD SG.
I've seen a lot of bad ones, but I am quite sure you know exactly what you are looking at.

good hunting..

I like the neck a lot better than the Paul I traded. If you don't like how a guitar plays or its tone why keep it? It was a beautiful looking guitar though with the sparkle top and gold hardware.

Now I have two Strats and two Gibsons, I'm ready for anything LOL.

JimmyD

Here is a great song about Gettysburg - the singer uses a slide and an SG. Very nice piece of work. I really like the bass player too - actually uses a Vox body!
