Tonight I'm trading my 2000 Crimson Sparkle Top Les Paul for a 1999 reissue of a 1962 Gibson SG plus some cash. The SG is a lot lighter and more my style.

I never cared for the SG . . . but I'm with you on the light part.

My semi hollow is a real joy to wear, and that neck, oh my . . .

The Sparkle Top is one heavy guitar. I have rotator cup damage in my left shoulder so I need something lighter. The SG is so thin and light! I guess a doctor collected guitars and never learned to play and is now selling his collection. My friend bought the SG with the intention of trading it to me for the Paul, he's wanted that thing for a long time. He's also giving me $500 cash so I might get a new acoustic.

I'm glad you're getting some cash in the deal, didn't sound like a fair trade (for you) at first!
Hope the SG is balanced - I've found that on most the neck seems to be heavier than the body, so is always trying to point 'down' (Tele semi-hollow bodies are the same way).

Jimmy you will have to get the school boy outfit for that axe!

Ive been really jonseing for one of those Page Double necks, but Im sure they are way more than I would want to pay!

I was trying to think of a list of famous SG players - Leslie West, Tony Iommi, Angus Young, Frank Zappa. Who else?

I had a Black 70-something SG definetly light body and headstock heavy. Also had the thickest mid tones...

Great Picture, that one is 3 pickups, some of those were actually Les Pauls, but they looked like an SG.

Les made them discontinue using his name on them after the first few years I think.

I got mine in the early 60's. At the time they were called Les Paul Customs, but Les got his feathers ruffled since he had no part in its design. It had the name Les Paul on the truss rod cover but no where else. The first time I saw one was at a trade show. I liked it but I was not too tempted at the time. Later I traded a Gibson Thunderbird for one. As mentioned, the thing is a bit neck heavy but you can adjust to that. Mine is a walnut finish with Gold hardware. Actually the Gold has been pretty much tarnished off of it. Now it looks more like Walnut and pewter.

Mine's the traditional maroon finish. The pick guard still has the cellophane covering it. Don tells me this doctor bought 15 cool guitars and never learned to play. Hey doc, you wouldn't want me to take out your gall bladder, maybe you better leave the guitar playing to us guitarists.

...Clapton, Santana, Robbie Krieger, Pete Townsend, Derek Trucks, Mike Alsup (Three Dog Night), James Gurley (Janis Joplin) and a Detroit boy I think.

The Gibson SG was all the rage from 67-71 and then suddenly it was over. I played mine for 30 years and it is now pretty rung out and retired from active duty. She served me well though, good luck with your new axe Jimmy.
