I'm new to the Frisco area, and I had many ideas in the past about music. The last band I was in was in highschool around 10 years ago. We did a battle of the bands sort've, we fell out because our lead singer was a kind of jerk and said our kind of music made us lose.

The idea we had was a little thing I like to call "Cowpunk"

What is "Cowpunk" you might ask?
Well, it's an idea I got when listening to Yellowcard a LONG time ago. See Yellowcard did something cool and add a violin to their rock sound, I thought it brought a unique and very cool backing to the songs they played. But for my idea, I replaced the violin with a harmonica. That's right, punk music with a harmonica.

I was hoping to see if the idea would set foot, and I'm afraid it wouldn't appeal to most people considering the majority of music (that I've noticed) is everyone wants a kind of "Panic! At The Disco" sound. I'm more thinking an Old School Green Day sound, but with Harmonica backing up.

Hope this get's some considerations, and in the local Frisco area are interested! 8)

Not into that scene, but harmonica tends to be a lead (in front) instrument, not so much a backing one.

The harp ain't really something you can build a whole genre around. Harp is like salt or pepper...You aren't thinking : "...What kind of a meal can I build around this?"

Punk, has gotton dated in my opinion. There's a lot of High-energy music that surpasses traditional punk. (it was a narrow, specialized genre to begin with)...

Cowpunk... Already been done in Texas.

Nahh dude, its okay... Keep on drummin up ideas...The cowpunk idea wasn't bad...just a little impractical maybe... But keep the inventor's hat on...its refreshing to see it ;)

I guess the real question at this point would be: do you have any one else for your band yet? The hardest part is finding like-minded others with the same musical direction/desires. Forget defining 'who/what' you are until you've got the people in place.

Don't listen to them!
You do whatever you want with music. That's how discoveries are made... trial and error.
If it sounds good in your head, it'll sound good performing it. You may have to tweek it here n there to get what you're after, but I love going outside of the box.
Rock On

Salute!
