That definition of "genius" is about a universal as the Catholic Church is. It may be applicable in some cases but far from definitive.

Kant's definition, "Genius is a talent for producing something for which no determinate rule can be given, not a predisposition consisting of a skill for something that can be learned by following some rule or other."

or Socrates' "Talent hits a target no one else can hit; Genius hits a target no one else can see." much better define "genius" for me.

I am quite capable of deciding for myself what quality and what qualities I desire in my music listening.

If you feel yourself or someone else to be especially suited to make quality control decisions for others ... there is also a variety of platforms online for you to do that. If you are really hot stuff then you can try and monitize it by charging others to view it.

Start your own youtube channel and those who like what you have selected will subscribe to your channel. Put your favorites up on a pedestal for all to admire. But you cannot control anyone else's channel, and everyone is allowed to have a channel.

If you are really so overwhelmed by all of the dross and can't find your way in the dark forest of youtube, there are already channels by others with similar tastes to help you find your way.

The merry-go-rounds and kidde-cars are nice and safe for little kids who may not be yet mature enough to handle safety decisions, as adults we are trusted to navigate the more unpredictable world of real traffic.

There has been a movement by some corporations and government agencies to tighten up and control internet content and presentation to favor larger paid (more than we individuals can afford) for enterprises.
That would seem to be closer to the old system you are getting nostalgic for.

I would never have worry about anything broadcast from such a feeble transmitter!

Especially now that we no longer have to listen only to music deemed "genius" by self-righteous bozos pompously declaring what music is worthy to be broadcast or not. Fallen cultural dictators are crying over the dangerous anarchy of youtube! boo hoo!

Sorry dog, but that's some funny shiites

Still not sure what the argument against a band making a video and putting it on YouTube is? :?:

Seems like railing against paper because the bible is written on it. YouTube is only a medium that allows every person in the world to be on it at the same time.

Yes, it's hard to find a needle in 7 billion haystacks but start walking through it and something will stick to you.

Vinny, One word for you..."Useless". I certainly don't want to control you, or decide what is good for you. Please Indulge in your You Tube like a school-girl thumbing through the pictures of a dozen novellas at the local walgreens. It's really all you are actually capable of. Maybe some day you'll grow up and be a musician, for real. You know what they say about You Tube... You're either busy making the videos or you're busy wading through them all.

You do not want to control my listening, and you cannot, but you do advocate that system that has controlled and filtered what what was available to me to listen to up until the 2000's or so.

Your experience may be that of a poor bewildered lost little puppy. But I remember how to find my way around a record store, youtube is way easier to search and offers far far more than the best record shops ever did for me. I am delighted to find new music daily, and occasionally stumble across entire genres that I had been unaware existed.

But if all you can hope for is another Beatles Clapton or CSN&Y etc. (funny to think how they wrote your favorite tunes while swizzled on acid, pot and smack) with guaranteed quality control, to validate your very narrow view of what great music should be, wow "must suck to be YOU!" ... tsk tsk grumpy old man!

Lou Reed made the record "Metal Machine Music" especially to address quality control concerns like yours.

I guess I failed to update folks...I now can tune my sitar :) . But, you Vinny, ...You're still useless. Why dont you pull your asberger's head out of your ass and go back to read my original posting... My opinion about You tube, in no way implies I want to control your tasteless, lame choices. If you want to watch pubescent teenagers expeiriment with their puppies and guitars sound, that;s certainly your pervert-ogative. Don't pin your bullshit onto me... The fact is , my opinion on You Tubes is that most of the material is f**k lame...and absoluetely and unequivocally sucks. And that's because of assholes like you, who feel so self-important , that you actually believe you have a f**k clue about what's good or bad. I hope you never work in the food or beverage industry..and please, stay the f**k out of the libraries, lest you try to pass your gerbil insertion technique as something 'classic' or avante-garde. Like I said, you should drop your 'tortured soul' act and get f u c k i n real.

Vinny, I don't have the luxary of sitting on my ass, collecting welfare and disability like you do. So, naturally, I have to 'take control" of my own life and create my own opportunities.
To you, that probably looks like 'control freak'. So Yeah,.. You got me...I'm a control freak.
If I come off bossy, it's because I have no time or patience for wishy-washy sideliners.
Seems that all you do is sit in the peanut gallery, lobbing your narrow opinions, but you got no substance to back it up with...
I'm keepin my fingers crossed for ya Vinny...I have all the faith in the world that once you get past puberty, you'll present one of your brilliant, un-fetttered, uncontrolled, un-dictated pieces of work. I will have no reason to suspect that it would be anything less than the greatest of the greatest. (But i'm probably gonna laugh my ass off if all that greatness was inspired by a you-tube video.)

No different than any other open mic jam. But Its fun to engage. Nice way to blow steam.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kz8pfex3kjM

Jazz meets Raja... Totally Undermines the soul of Indian music
but it s nice listen to. BTW, This will work very well at Starbucks in about 10 years. The only mountains it will move are sacks of coffee.

Festive , Fun, Aurally, visually... But that guy sure was being a control freak when he was trying to get me to say "Hey"...Gawd how bossy!

Nice! And expose of indonesian Percussion, replete with mystical dance...Dare I say it, it is the support behind a peaceful martial art.
Mark should have been in on this...and also Marlon Brando.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L1IK81UhYm8

The African version of three chord progression, with that zany surf reverb
Made me want to go dance crazy for a moment... But , I'd lose control if that happened.

zzzz...Derick Trucks does this much better.... Just saying (and I'm not kidding...He has been studying such scales)

Lovely. Kinda looks like dancing with the stars, with Chuck Berry and a young version of Ella Fitzgerald doing the rhumba. But they do capture the heart of that mantra chorus quite well.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CUGMeC2zsxY

Frommage avec du Twist. French Saxophone ..the perfect intonation of language, spoken through the nose. Beyond that it comes off as another open mic jam.

In conclusion, Vinny is a closet Dancer...

Your point about variety, diversity is well taken... All chock full of joy and amusement..but musically they lack one simple element..."Greatness" . I guess were all waiting on you ...

Oh yeah right i;ll bet they jam down with masinqo and electric krar every monday night in El Paso ... none of the open mic jams you posted had anything like or that could even begin to compare

Your ignorance of Indian music is displayed plainly with that comment.
You clearly know nothing of the "soul" of Indian music much less Carnatic music much less of the nadaswaram. He is playing classical music on the saxophone with all the subtleties and gamakas.

The smugness of the delusional grandeur that informs your comments seems to fuel your eagerness to display a knowledge of music from other cultures that is about equal to one molecule of graphene in depth. We can easily sum it up ... Dunning-Kruger Effect
