One upon a time somewhere around the 70's, there was a musician named Frank Zappa, who had a band called "Mothers of Invention". In that band, there lived and worked a drummer named Jimmy Carl Black. Jimmy could really drum. One day, many years later, the Mothers disbanded and Jimmy set out to go back to Canutillo TX, (where, he was born and raised).

While recovering from the Los Angeles life, he did two very important historical things:
1) He bought, and ran a Winchell's Donuts shop in El Paso. 2) He formed a local band called 'Sonny and the Low Boys". In that band, there lived and worked a Lead guitar player named Randy Russ. Randy could really play that guitar.

Fast Forward: It is with great honor and privilege that I can proudly announce; Randy has gladly agreed to work with our band for the Timberon Blues Project. He likes the original material were doing and ..Let me just say...His playing skills are outta the park... I Might add I am extremely intimidated. But alas, he has shown great patience with me...

We did our first rehearsal together last Monday... In that rehearsal, we also added a new drummer. Mike Lavin. He is a top Notch Heavy Metal drummer... Which presents us with a mild challenge... We will be coaching his dynamics, to bring down the fire a little... He has totally agreed to be the bitch for the band until he gets it down. (Ever try Keb Mo's "Dangerous Mood" ala AC DC driver)...uh yeh. There is some schooling for all of us, because we really have to pay attention to the nuance of passion/meter/ and variation of 'groove' magnitude' Otherwise it all comes out MIssion From Hell.

Its all Good and this Journey is wild :) Mike McFee is lining up a radio spot for us... Will interview and air one of my Blues tunes. How cool is that?

I am scared as a MF but its all leading to that Timberon show... And there are some tough acts there to follow... I'm about to chew on a whole new layer of humility... but I would not have it any other way...

All good - assuming you can tame the drummer! One of the hardest things to do is get a drummer to realize the dynamics needed for most music.

...PaperDog...you bear excellent news. It is always desired to "run" with those faster than yourself for you will then come up to their level. This will be very good and rewarding for you. I am pleased and feel that you will grow and develop from this foray. Of course it is exciting and this being in the best way possible. Excellent story... superb tale.
