Yo Tiff,
I kinda' liked "Sir Paul's use of bass distortion on "Think For Yourself" from the Rubber Soul album! Other then that....guess you're right, straight ahead bass is best.

Who do you get a singing drummer off your front porch? Tip him 2 bucks after he delivers the pizza.

Sorry about that Click Track. I thought we were trying to be funny with this thread. I've heard that joke about everybody from a front man to a roadie.

Okay, as a bass player, I have to point out one of the more, um, interesting things that has happened to me more than once. This is one that I've had guitar players claim as a bass player infraction. I feel the need to shift the - um - blame a bit.

Guitar players: If I'm playing a song where the bass line is a pedal note on the root of the chord, I have no friggin idea what chord you are supposed to play. I'm playin' a G. Maybe that's a major G, possibly it's minor. It might be Gmaj7. Or not. It could be Gdim. Or not.

Oh, you say, but the other chords should give you a clue.

But, it's a 1,4,5 progression, all pedal notes. I play G, then I play C, then I play D. Well, that does rule out the diminished chord.

You can laugh all you want, this has actually happened to me.

Now, if I'm playing a boogaloo pattern, or a pentatonic scale pattern, or - you know - a pattern with some chord information in it, then I can help you. Maybe.

But don't get mad if I can't. Because root and octave, even root, five, octave as a pattern isn't going to tell me what chord you should play, either.

And, no, I don't carry the picks you like.
