I have had the pleasure of playing music with Laws and Dwayne Rushing over the years. Their cousin Danny Dill wrote this with Marijohn Wilkin in 1959. It was originally recorded by Lefty Frizzell. Many notable covers followed including Johnny Cash, Joan Baez, John Anderson with Merle Haggard, and Dave Matthews with Emmy Lou Harris.

Well done Paul. I first heard that song when my Grandad played it on a Burl Ives record he had.

I would love to hear it but my computer is so far out of date Youtube won't play at 4Kbps. I love that song. Before I began playing guitar the "oakies (Ridge runners) < that WAS PC back in the day :) on my ship used to play guitar and sing that song. We all really liked it. It is still one of my favorites to this day. Lefty was Merle before Merle became Lefty. Country folk know what I mean.

Thanks Jimmy. It's a powerful song to cover. I've played music with the writers cousins.

Not sure Mike? That's exactly what we're going for. The Farleys don't want everyone to like us.
