I saw a banner ad here on Bandmix for the Essencefestival. Perhaps it's finally time for Americans to truly integrate. BET network. Jet magazine. NAACP. Etc. I understand that at one time there was a real need for these institutions. And there may be many people who still feel that need. But don't you feel that these organizations are no longer really needed, that we need to move beyond, that racism in America isn't anywhere near what it was fifty years ago? While it still exists and needs to be confronted when it shows its ugly head, do we need exclusively black institutions today? Is it still necessary? I'm NOT trying to stir up any heated racial debate. Obviously since I'm not black myself (I'm an Eskimo who had plastic surgery after an accident), perhaps I'm not even qualified to even ask these questions.
In the cul-de-sac we live in, it has shifted from all white 26 years ago to the "United Nations." We have white, hispanic, Laotian, African (NOT African American but recent African immigrants), etc. and I don't even think twice about it. It's what America is becoming. And perhaps racially exclusive organizations perhaps will soon belong in the dustbin of history.
