I just heard this morning that The Cure played a fifty-song 4 hour set a couple of days ago in Mexico. Wow.

I wonder if they took a break in there somewhere?

Ya know....I can remember when we did 4 sets a night, 6 nights a week in the clubs, but concerts never went that long.

That's cool that they would give that much, but I wonder how many people could actually take it?

I find that people can only pay attention for about 90 minutes. Anything over that and they are too saturated to hear it.

I saw the Cure a few years ago, I left after three hours. No breaks, just solid music. They don't have much of a show, no jumping around etc. so they can concentrate on the music.

That ought to tell us all something when a Cure fan can't endure the whole show. It went too long if your audience isn't wanting more when you're done.

I can see a restless look in people's faces somewhere between 90 to 120 minutes. Physically, people can't sit on their butts that long before their mind drifts completely away. Even if they aren't sitting, a singular focus can not be maintained without some kind of intermission.

About 45 minutes into a 90-120 minute concert I play a "meet & greet" song so people can get up and walk around for a few minutes socializing with others. That allows me to restart the clock of holding their attention for 90 minutes.

Two hours is about the limit for any type of entertainment for me, movies, plays, concerts etc. all better be done soon after two hours or I'm gone. That's what makes a 4 hour concert amazing to me.
