Wow this is why I detest politics and that type of talk.

I mean who really gives a fat crap about the Obama phone enough to hate someone else over it.

Don't you have enough misery on your plate, Keith?
I figured you did.

Thanks Glenny.

The Telecommunications Act was signed in 1996. This program falls under that Act. Initially it was only land-lines. It started under Clinton continued through Bush and Obama.

http://www.fcc.gov/guides/universal-ser ... mechanisms

According to the FCC website this program is funded by the telecommunications companies.
The cost is passed on to the paying customers and is called the "Universal Service Fund". Check your cell phone bill most carriers call it that.
Next will be free internet.

I'm not saying it isn't abused or is even fair. But the facts are on the FCC website.

You are a liar. There are NO government phones. I just lost a lot of respect for you man.

SHOULD I GO THRUGH WEB SITE AFTER WEB SITE?

Sir Mr Haley is not a liar, and I respect him as a gentleman.

free Government Cell Phones – #1 Authority on Free Cell Phones ...

If you intend to persist with your continuous support of stealing my money...
Than sir I will be most happy to serve as Mr Haleys second...

Shall we meet at sun up? Ten paces?

The site you linked is questionable- I'd just as soon think it was a scam site- if you want to give them your personal info, knock yourself out- BUT EVEN THAT SITE SAY THIS:

"It’s been commonly called the “Obama phone” but that’s an urban legend as free cell phones were added under the Bush Administration."

Which coincides exactly with what I've been saying all along. It's not taxpayer funded, Obama had nothing to do with it.

No Scott- What pisses me off so much about this particular topic is that it's easily the greatest example of misinformation used to brainwash gullable people like haley and glenn into believing that the "other side" of their partisan politics is somehow ripping them off as taxpayers, but also that it is one of the most easily dis-proven hoaxes in the history of the internet.

Yes, it irks the crap out of me that people continue to vomit up misinformation like that, which tells me that everything else they vomit up, not only repeating lies and propaganda, but at the risk of further concincing other gullible idiots that it's truth.

And then you, smart enough to know better, and still coming out and taking a cheap shot, just because I choose to take a stronger stand on this topic? You ask why I hate- I don't hate, I called it as I saw it- You can't have an "obama phone" because it doesn't exist. What is so hateful about that? I might ask why you chose to even chime in on this topic if it's so repulsive to you?

Keith, all I know is my Mom said she has a government phone. I saw the phone and assumed the government paid for it. My question to you is do you really think the private sector is paying for this 100%? You to Mr. Jahva? I have seen this LIBERAL program that Bill Clinton started, in fact correct me if I am wrong but I believe this program is funded by a TAX collected via OUR cell phone bills collected by the GUBMENT so what is the PHUKIN DIF?

Give credit where it's due... The cell phone program didn't begin till 08 and was created under the Bush admin.
Not Obama.
Either way it shouldn't change your anger or disgust.

I really don't care which administration started this. I am not against helping or protecting the needy. I am just seeing a bunch of finger pointing and blame. Can we all get over it and just do the right thing.

The point is this program has grown from 800 million to 2.5 billion. The average cost has become $250 a month when all the big government administrative cost is added in.

My phone costs 15 dollars a month for 300 minutes.

Jimmy just complained about his trip from helll. There would be no sequester, if the people we have allowed our authority... Were being more RESPONSIBLE.

Kramer I hope you start to understand this. We really need intelligent people to start saying, we need to spend our money, our tax dollars, wisely.

What are you joking? Are you telling me that you are being taxed so that you can exercise your 1st amendment rights? What the helll will they think of next?

They already tax condoms. May be they should start taxing insanity.
There has to be enough crazy people to tax and wipe out the national deficit.

They... being the self serving public servants... all the way to the top...

Thanks for standing up against tyranny, Mr Haley!

Yes and No!
The Act requires all Telecommunications companies to pay into the fund which is redistributed by Universal Service Administrative Company. This is a private company not a branch of the Govt. (There's your NO)

The communications companies add a fee to every bill that covers their part to the fund. If you have a cell phone, home phone, cable or internet most of those companies add this fee. (there's your YES)
But it is not anything new.

As for the recent increase, in part.... started in 2011 because Internet was added to the fees.
This program is what funds some poor communities schools and libraries as well as the individuals that qualify for a variety of services including phones and the internet.

I don't really get all the hub bub about it. Or the blame game. I'm not a Democrat nor a Republican I hate both parties equally. Which is why I usually stay off this board.

Call it whatever you want...
Obama-net coming soon to a school near you! :P

The Universal Service Administrative Company (USAC) is an independent American nonprofit corporation designated as the administrator of the federal Universal Service Fund (USF) by the Federal Communications Commission. USAC is a subsidiary of the National Exchange Carrier Association. The USAC administers USF programs by providing subsidies for high cost telephone companies serving rural areas, low-income consumers, rural health care providers, and schools and libraries.

USAC has more than $26.2 billion in E-Rate funding commitments and $17.9 billion in E-Rate funding disbursements issued to schools and libraries nationwide through the E-Rate program since 1998.[1] USAC collects contributions from telecommunications providers and distributes more than $7.5 billion annually. It is governed by a board of directors representing various stakeholder interests and carries out rules adopted by the FCC. The company has 243 employees.[2]

Thank you for your input Jahva. However there is a completely different way to view this. The cell phone companies have set up a cover operation through the USAC which is MANDATED BY THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO COVER AREAS THAT WOULD NEVER PRODUCE A PROFIT.

What is the reason for business? To produce a profit. In other words My government has mandated a hidden tax that is applied to everyone else. It is used to supply a product in an area where NO profit can be made.

Now who did you say was paying for this? AHHH YES, every one that has a phone. In other words it is a hidden TAX.
I especially want to thank you for pointing out the new 2011 internet TAX. You are a sharp cookie. However, it is still just another TAX.

Further more you don't like to get involved... When a Billionaire buys a steak from a local food store, he pays the same hidden taxes as the working people. Hidden... property, electric, payroll, telephone, transportation, registration, tolls, fica, this list goes on forever. These are oppressive repressive taxes.

You are telling me all these taxes are going to support schools and libraries nation wide. I see NO evidence to support that.

I hope you stay involved Jahva. I know you don't like politics... I also hope you don't like another man telling you how to live.
