one thing I dont get..

The majority of americans and gun owners AGREE that keeping guns away from psychopaths and criminals is a GOOD thing, and want SOME FORM of legislation that would at least instill background checks and put a stop to the invisible gun show purchases.. yet the bill that just got struck down, outside of those provisions I mentioned, had literally NO TEETH..

If I were a hardcore gun owner and 2nd amendment fanatic, I would have been happy to pass that, otherwise who knows just how much worse the next one will be?

You shouldn't be gloating that as a victory, you should be mourning that failure. Nobody won, everyone lost. Except psychopaths and criminals. (edit) oh yeah, and the gun sellers, manufactures and the NRA. Yay, more greed and corruption. I guess in this country, more greed and corruption IS a win.

Go celebrate and stand your ground somewhere.. I'm sure there's a kid with a threatening pack of skittles, or maybe a mars bar.. OH NOES! MARS.. aliens! EEK!!!! chic-chic... BANG BANG BANG.. whew.. that was close, he almost assaulted me with calories!

LOL "my side".. no.. I gave up on taking sides. my side is the american people, and yes, we all lost, including you. You may choose to be ignorant and not know it, but that's okay, understanding will reach you some day. I honestly don't mean that as a slight.. I was being intentionally sarcastic and funny in my previous post, but this one is pretty sincere.

I seriously hope you agree that we should address why mental patients are getting guns though.. and how to stop them, and criminals, from buying them from legal sellers... bad enough they can get them illegally

Im a gun owner and from what I saw on this bill it wasnt that bad. Would have been fine with me.

BUT! Now it will be revisited and start all over and as Kramer says who knows what a new version will look like.

I know everyone here thinks I'm a crazed anti-gun librul.. but really, I'd like to see a world without guns, or missles, or drones, etc..

I'm also a realist, and realize that for now, they are here.. so why not do what we can to properly regulate them. Not take them away. Not deny them to anyone not legally dangerous, but just simply.. regulate the sales, etc..?

That's all.

Really?

From my understanding "Mentally ill " would cover anyone who ever suffered or was treated for depression, ADD, or any other number of other psychiatric conditions .

Anyone who ever took medication from the stress of divorce, or stress from work or numerous other conditions that required TEMPORARY medication would be on the list. In fact, almost every American would have been on the list to have their weapons taken from them, if Schumer got his way.

So would you really like that? Unless the term Mentally Ill was clearly defined and not subject to amendment almost every legal gun owner would have their guns subject to confiscation. If your wife or anyone in your house fell under one of those definitions, even if you did not, your guns would be subject to confiscation. After all, wasn't that the exact excuse that they are using to disarm America? (Phony as it is)

Wake up dudes. This wasn't about anything other than removing the guns from legal law abiding constitution supporting Americans.

I don't think anyone was talking about confiscation. Background checks were proposed for people buying new guns. And if you're so stressed out from your divorce that you need medication that's a pretty good indicator that you shouldn't buy a new weapon right now. This is just common sense stuff.

it could have easily been amended as such. The bill was passable with minimal editing.

Kramer I respect everyones viewpoints when it comes to guns, we all come from a different perspective on the gun issue.

I wasnt opposed to the bill as it was presented, I dont care for someone saying if I give my son one of my old family guns that I have to report it, I dont like there being a data base showing I own guns, to me if guns ever are made illegal then someone like me who bought them legally would be the one that would lose them, whereas the criminal aspect would got thiers illegally wouldnt lose thiers.

This whole situation was a knee jerk reaction in my opinion. The problem isnt guns, its the ones that shoot people with them. If someone gets run over by a car you dont go after the car manufacturer, you go after the driver. Makes sense to me, but many dont see it that way, and its thier right to not see it the way I do. Hell most drugs are illegal but a lot of people still use them. So extreme tactics dont work, in my humble opinion.

Also, what might work in say Detroit may not fit the rancher in Texas. On that thought I believe the states should govern issues like this, not the federal government. But thats just my take on things.

I think that's a fair argument, let the states decide and have their own laws, but the problem then becomes people buying guns in Virginia and taking them to New York.

The reason is simple. The bill wasn't about protecting anyone. It was about giving the Federal Government a national database that isn't any of it's business. Nothing in that legislation would have prevented the Newtown massacre. If a crazy person wants to murder someone who has weapons and then go use them, none of the proposed laws can stop it.

If we are serious about enforcing laws already on the books, then there might be some areas of agreement where new laws could be passed...but not when law-abiding citizens are being demonized by the left-wing extremists (the media and the Democrat Party)

The biggest reason it didn't pass is because it is being attempted by HYPOCRITES who arm themselves and are building a standing army (without answering to our Representatives in Congress about why) while at the same time trying to disarm law-abiding citizens. If they wanted to pass a law, they should attempt to respect my representatives in Congress.

The 2nd Amendment is very clear. Leave it alone.

The bigger picture....The reason it didn't pass now is because opposing sides want the credit for themselves later... The bill is doomed to pass eventually, because reps and dems are BOTH turning socialist ...One side wants it for welfare, the other side wants it for power...
