Thanks for asking Joe! The judging is not until 6:30 pm CST. My wife is at the fair grounds with him all day and I go up after work. She texted a little while ago to let me know that he is competing with 8 other steers and his is in the mid weight class of that group which is a pretty good place to be. They don't always (mostly never) pick the largest one. Also most of the kids their are showing exotic cross bread steers! Some of those parents pay as much for their childs animal as a brand new F250 4WD! I am not kidding about that! I don't expect Bret to win I am just hoping he'll make auction so we don't have to spend 2k to buy the animal for next year. This whole thing to me is somthing to keep the boy out of trouble as he has to go to the barn 3 miles away to feed, water, groom, and clean the stall everyday twice a day 24/7. He is learning a lot about responsibility and hard work. Plus there is a pride factor involved. That factor is taking pride in doing the job to the best of his ability and taking pride in a job well done! Priceless!
