Saturday was a milestone day for El Paso TX.

The ASARCO smoke stack was demolished. This is very signifiacnt because of the health disaster it created 20-30 years ago for 'Smelter Town' employess and residents, and the spillover pollution to both El Paso and Juarez.

I grew up about 5 miles from that stack, over by the UTEP college. In the 70s, i remember waking up every morning to go to school, and I could taste the sulpher in the air. (Those who lived in LA can identify with that).

For 20 years, environmentalist fought hard to stop the stack operations. The stack ceased and was decommissioned @15 years ago. Saturday was the final phase of its demise.

ALSO, on Sunday, we demolished the EL Paso City Hall building. In its place, there will be a Triple A Ball Park Stadium built. (More on that later)

Quite a day For El Paso TX

The video below was taken from atop Mount Cristo Rey, which borders Mexico and US.

Those guys sure had faith in regards to direction! That one vehicle to the left could have been crushed if the stack had fallen the wrong way or so it appears!

I didn't notice you were from there..

I was there once back in 2000. No offense meant, but among all the cities I've traveled to in the USA (been to most), El paso was only 2nd to Detroit in regard to what a sh1tty dump it was (sorry mike!). Man, how do you live there?

BTW .. Cleanest- St. Paul

Yeah El Paso is a shambles . . . shame too. Used to be such a cool place.

Company my wife works for wont even let their people fly in there if they will have to do any commute at night.

I told my wife she could forget it unless I went as security.
And I'll be packin some serious firepower.
Bet your ass on that.

I can live there, because most of the people are pretty down to earth, It has a great Hispanic culture that hasn't been 'homogenized and/or completely pasteurized.

I have traveled to other cities world wide, two-fold and i can say with with certainty that there are absolutely and unequivocally... no sunsets like what we have in the El Paso desert.

The weather is glorious most of the year. We have the best damn Mexican food, right here, ever, anywhere... period.

Sorry your experience was not a good one. Maybe you'll come thru agian some day..If you do, let me know and well pile down the Bohemia Beers and dive into some red Enchiladas...;)

Sounds like the El Paso I remember . . . before the illegals started stealing everything that's not bolted down.
