I haven't watched it yet, but I've heard good things about that one.

For me, it was "fat, sick, and nearly dead".. another amazing documentary about better eating/living.

"Fat, sick, and nearly dead" was awesome. If you liked that I highly recommend "forks over knives". It was even more enlightening to me.

And the link above is to hulu. It's free but they use commercials to pay for the service. If you have netflix it is there obviously without the commercials.

The reason Americans are so fat is because we use food for many things other than just fuel. Maybe they should ban the food commercials like they did cigarette commericals.

This is good, but I thought everybody knew this already... ]

I have drastically reduced red meat intake,

I flat out gave up Pork (as much as i love bacon!)

Been eating Talapia, Salmon.. Lots of veggies...

Reduced my sugar intake .

Wont touch Red Bull or any of that crap.

Stopped drinking (still have occasional wine or beer and extremely rare occasion, a mixed drink.)

Stopped smoking a few years back, and though I gained weight, I stabled out and now I m losing that weight

I walk 30 + minutes everyday... (Doing power walks...they wear me out)

If I die, it's prolly gonna be from boredom...lol

One very big reason for fat Americans in High Fructose Corn syrup which has replaced sugar in soda. Sugar was bad enough for folks who drink a lot of soda but the corn syrup turns off the "appestat," the body's ability to determine if it is needs more food. HAs been genetically modified and is really not something you want in your body.

I occasionally get a Mexican coke or ginger all and its amazing how much better they are than the slop we are pouring down our throats.

My own weight problem can be traced to whiskey - I gave up eating, drinking sodas and chasing younger women but the whiskey has it's hooks in me!

Thanks for sharing Paul. It's a pretty compelling vid linking illness and obesity to our popular western diet. I thought I was pretty fit but now I'm not so sure. I passed this on to my extended family.

My wife was laughing at me. After watching this I texted her saying we need to start eating healthier. She replied "I have wanted to do that for a longtime and when did you start thinking so healthy?"

Yes. It's very social. Did you watch it?

J-HALEY wrote:  Thanks Paul thats a real eye opener!

It was for me too.

PaperDog wrote:This is good, but I thought everybody knew this already... ]

Pretty much everybody does. But to have it eloquently presented with the large quantity of confirming studies, Some of which were HUGE, makes it so much more real. More digestible, no pun intended.

I heard it all from doctors and magazines. But this movie changed my life.

PaperDog wrote: I have drastically reduced red meat intake,

Win! We eat lots of venison. Lean, hormone free, and free range. A living, running animal gives healthy living meat.

PaperDog wrote: I flat out gave up Pork (as much as i love bacon!)

Not me! I was eating lots of bacon, sausage, and occasionally scrapple. Now instead of 6 pieces of commercial bacon with sodium nitrate for or so times a week I eat 2-3 pieces 2 or 3 times a week with NO sodium nitrates.

PaperDog wrote:Been eating Talapia, Salmon..

Winning. I always ate salmon. I love trout. It's my favorite right now. And my favorite is well done salmon or trout SKIN! If prepared right it gives bacon a run for it's money on the decadent yum scale! I make a sauce with equal parts raw apple cider vinegar, lemon juice, and soy sauce. Combine that with an equal amount of water. I put the fish skin up in the toaster and broil it for 11 minutes. It crisps the skin and the flesh is still moist. DELISH!

PaperDog wrote: Lots of veggies...

Perfect. Living! Make sure it's clean and not GMO.

PaperDog wrote:Reduced my sugar intake .

I have eliminated sugar and more importantly high fructose corn syrup from my diet. I use REAL maple syrup with loads of antioxidants and local honey which is great for local allergens.

PaperDog wrote:Wont touch Red Bull or any of that crap.

Poison. I may have had one or three of those.

PaperDog wrote:Stopped drinking (still have occasional wine or beer and extremely rare occasion, a mixed drink.)

I haven't had alcohol in many years. The benefits, resveratrol and flavonoids, are also found in grape juice.

PaperDog wrote: Stopped smoking a few years back, and though I gained weight, I stabled out and now I m losing that weight

Win! Sounds like you're trying to live!

PaperDog wrote: I walk 30 + minutes everyday... (Doing power walks...they wear me out)

GOLDEN!! So awesome for you! The rhythm of walking is conducive to thinking!

Yes to all of that!

Indeed.

Beautiful! Compelled is how I felt. I hope it is a blessing to your lives as it has been to my family.

Lol! After I watched it the same thing happened! I spoke up to my wife and she said that she has been saying most of this the whole time!

There is something about the way the info is presented that really drives it home. That's why I changed and that's why I shared.

If just one person gets it and changes their life habits then this post was worth it.
