I know, right? At one time there were only Elvis tribute bands, now there's even tribute bands for bands that are still together and performing! And the bad part is, they are taking jobs away from more deserving bands. There's Smiths, Cream, The Who, Black Sabbath, The Doors and Ozzie tribute bands in this area with a bunch of others trying to form.
I wouldnt want to limit myself to just playing one bands music, but does that make tribute bands bad? There must be an audience for so many to be around, so its all cool with me.
A couple of years ago I went and saw this KISS tribute band and I thought they were really good. In fact I told my wife they were a deal, cause they looked and sounded better than the last time I had seen KISS.
But for the most part not my cup of tea.

obviously everyone's different... why we play music. what we hope to take away from it. and what get's our ankles hard when we listen to the music we choose to listen to.
me, i've never had much interest in RE-creating things. i recognize that it does take talent and a legit skill set to do it ...and do it well. it's just never been my cup of bosco.
is it any wonder i gravitate towards jazz and bluegrass? both of those schools encourage and expect you to create, take some chances, and not play the same parts the same way each time you perform the song.
other's mileage will ALWAYS vary.
