I 'm just starting up a conversation. What a question? Drug binged miles is the father of brilliant composition. pre drug binged Miles stood out period. I just want to see what ya'll think. It'sa question that needs answering. would we be as far as we are if we never ever took anything that changed our mood or made us saw stuff. or would we all be lawrence welch. (for those of you who like lawrence , GOD BLESS YA).just a question. I will say that the best times i everhad playing i was on something . in the same token i had very few of those experiences because i always wanted my wits about me. i very rarely have been messed up at a gig. I recorded my self duing a solo. i was baked .....well baked. i thought it was a masterpiece. yeah it was a masterpiece of sh!@#. so that quenched my thirst for wanting to play like that. anyways things did change and recordings were insane while under the influence of something. was it the drugs or was it that particular moment in time were one tapped into that thing that hovers above us and gives inspiration? by the way i do not advocate drugs in anyway. i walked my walk they way i did. i've been relatively sober for 8 yrs.alittle drinking once or twice a year and an orgy now and thenLOL

I think if your screwing round jamming, a little herb does help get you out of the box ... more inventive. But on the preformance side "NOT" ...like you said ... you think that you're doing great ... but reality is ... it sounds like sh*t.

I find it pretty unprofessional drinking or doing drugs, getting payed while preforming ... we wouldn't do that in a day job without expecting to get fired ... why some musicians think it OK is beyond me

while on some kind of drug and/or alcohol. I don't know for sure whether the drugs helped or hindered their performance. Most of the people who I have played with who were on something ended up sounding like crap. Most certainly their behavior on some of the gigs was deplorable and got worse as the night progressed. I just do not tolerate anybody in the band I'm in doing drugs. It's impossible to say whether Miles would have played more creatively if he was sober. We'll never know. I would ike to think that Jim Morrison, Hendrix, Janis Joplin, etc. who died from their drug use would most likely still be alive today and still making great music. Would they have become famous if they never did drugs to begin with? We'll never know for sure. I tend to believe that very talented people do better without the drugs and/or booze. Music itself gives me a high, I don't need anything else to get me high. Later...

Just record something drunk or on drugs and listen to it later.

It will probably be just like a hangover, It Will Suck.

Booze or weed make the performer feel like they are really rippin'...but to the audience it's a different story.

I don't do weed! And my consumtion of crown is limited. As a"TIME KEEPER"i have a responsabillity to my self and to others in the seat and on the road going home. But after a good strech out it's quit relaxing early in the night. But that's a cool commit you make and very true.

Gosh, is a cup of coffee OK? Too strong, a cup of tea maybe? Or a Red Bull? And can I have a smoke or will that affect my performance? Making music is an art form and artists have used substances and made music since we accidentally breathed in some camp fire smoke and began pounding on logs. If the musician can't handle his intake and perform as expected then fire him, but don't try to micro-manage someone else's life.

I hafe to agree with you on that one.I been beaten on logs for along time and ive been on both sides. It just boils down to what you want out of music, and if you play wiff musicians that can control them selfs.

We can name it hmmmmm.........................i got it.. She hit us too. maybe .......That was one big bit!@. maybe .....................We were on the left on the left.LOL it's been acouple of years since we saw some crazy stuff like the tornadoes testerday. But man when it hits down here it's just as sad. but it seems to be a really wide path of destruction. i didn't mean to make light of the situation. I've said my prayers for all those affected and will do so everynight that they suffer. WE know the suffering down here. Katrina did much more damage on this side of her. New oreleans was devastated onthis side pass christian to bayou labatrie was almost erased off the map......... CRAZY CRAZY CRAZY> Anyways sorry for the long of it........ didn't mean to bring it down....
