Well I was exaggerating when I said 'everything'... (I did that to drive home my point, I suppose...) I do have confidence... sometimes I'm downright cocky (and that's when I get my ass kicked the most) But the stuff about the volume is true... My ears are extremely sensitive...probably because i'm not used to a full-blast stage environment. In any case , it throws me all over the map, and the nuances of my song or verse get trampled... (Thats where i feel disconnected)

It's commercial/professional grade , which I'm not used to (yet).

yeah, like i was saying you GOTTA have the confidence to know you can walk across that wire and get to the other side w/o falling flat on your face. and if you do a little arabesque or two and juggle a cpl of bowling pins in the process...even better.

volume is a funny thing w musicians. the good ones have already long figured out how to use it (and space) to good advantage as a tool.

I am having a similar problem. My playing is fine, it's my creativity that seems to have rebooted. All afternoon I tried to create a very "easy" four to eight bar instrumental transition from Verse 1 to Verse 2 in a song. Everything I tried sounded contrived.

Still don't have it.

So I 'm watching zombie movie trailers hoping to find a good one to take my mind of that song for a bit and come back inspired. (maybe I'll include a verse about zombies? )

Maybe you have a couple of tunes sitting in the prep phase?
Just slightly more than a few lines or even 1 line per tune so far>?

You need a minimum of 3 lines.
Take the 2 tunes and smash them together.


I just did a similar function and instead of 2 lesser tunes, I now have one complete tune albeit that the break is odd.

But then for me, odd is the norm.

The acid test is to play it for someone else and ask them to gently let you know what they think.

My "test ear" indicated that the break IS odd, but after I played it twice for her, she says that "since it's a break, it kind of works considering you are moving away from the main part of the tune and changing the dynamic".

She also said that when the break is complete and I return to the beginning, it's a nice transition. Break is in G and I am returning to A.
Not what I generally look for, but sometimes what you are looking for is right under your nose.

Translation: That one is ready for the next step.

Just need a jump start and that's the way Chief! Sometimes part of a song will inspire, or break open that sticking point that sometimes lands on us.

I actually tried your solution - I have numerous balls (songs) in the air. Ultimately I got lucky just noodling and found a riff I like - tentatively.

I have another tune I'm working that exactly follows your forumula - I'm combining two prac songs into one real song.

Good Job, I know what it's like to think you are in "vapor lock".
