While I am fairly confident that I can fake my way through an interview, I also know it is only a matter of time before reality catches up with me and I am fired because I am unable to do the job.

Did you know.....

That most probation periods last 90 days at most jobs. To get fired before 90 days, you'd have to be criminally stupid or piss the boss off so badly that he'd not only fire you but might even put out a hit. LOL

My point is, that's 3 months salary before you lose the job... That could help you out a bit. The brighter side, it may take them 6 months to get around to firing you becuse of burocracy

Better yet, they may actually like you and just keep you around... work with you to acclimate and adapt... You never know. But worse case scenario, you get fired...then maybe you can collect some unemployment or disability etc.

So Mike, you just gotta swallow the pride a little and get in there to pillage corp america the way everybody else does... 8)

No, music is what I do when I'm having fun.

Very few of us get to have fun and make money, all the rest go to work full time and finding a good full time job is like winning the lottery. "It doesn't happen for everyone, all the time".

Even working in the studio is no fun if you work for people that don't share your vision or your work ethic, because they make it more painful than it needs to be and the world is full of Chiefs, but very few Indians, no offense intended.

On stage I might be a Chief, but in real life I am an Indian and that's ok by me to the extent that things don't get ridiculous.

I worry just as much or more than the rest because I don't have a crystal ball, nor know the future and the ability to do the job at hand doesn't guarantee anything at all. You could be the best and most prolific writer, that doesn't mean much to the powers that be.

They don't even want to employ you but P/T, because that's all they need is a few hours here and a few hours there to repair some crap a lacking writer brings to the table.

Seems like there is always a greasy fat guy wanting to stick his fingers in your freshly created concoction du jour and you know that's like pouring 10w-40 on a freshly baked blueberry pie..ruined.

I know your pumping sarcasm on here, but that's the way it is.
You want to be a comedian? I get it, but do you? I don't think you do.

Life is full of tradeoffs, you might be on the weak side musically but you have nice job et cetera. You should be thankful for what you have and not be a jerk about it.

I am on the convex, and although I am always working to hone my craft, I don't ignore the basic realities of life just like I don't allow myself to get pumped about things that aren't real like grandeur.

I'll breathe easier when and if I ever get to the pinnacle.
Meanwhile, you'll do quite well, live very comfortably and I'll envy every minute of it because my moments in the sun are temporary thus far.

A bird in hand is worth 10 in the bush, not just 2 but you knew that already and if you didn't, you are either a dullard or a fool.

not quite sure if that was a yes or a no.

Do you like being able to afford the instruments you can barely play, JCP?
I bet that was a "yes".

If I couldn't work I would write and paint, both things I'm pretty good at and which can be done at home. Probably wouldn't make much (any) money but I would be happy. Until then I work every day and play music every night, just a paid slave.

I suppose that depends on the reason you couldn't work,

I guess i don't really understand the term "can't work"
I have to work.
I want to stay at home and have people mail me cheques, but I can't figure i out how that's done.

Anything and everything.

Got anything else mean to say?
I'm laughing my fool head off now. (yuck-yuck-yuck)
I'll be wearing my red nose with the horn in it shortly, stick around.

It's easy to throw rocks when your sitting inside the castle, it's even convenient because you can close the windows and you won't even hear them scream.

But oh when the crowd goes nuts because "there is no cake to eat" everyone is sorry then and the offenders end up stuck in the guillotine or similar situation.

You don't have to be nice or well behaved, just realize that an awful lot of people are in trouble in America regardless of how they say that the unemployment rate is down and there are a sh*t load of jobs.
WHERE IS THIS? I see nothing but the same desolation.

Truth is that people that know someone are always employed and the rest are ever scrambling. You can be capable and well-trained, educated, complimented and confident, it doesn't mean sh*t.

They don't want to pay you enough to survive, because that cuts into their overhead. The only people that make it around here either start out loaded or they have a skill set that is specific and in demand, "particularly unduplicatable" is the best refuge from the tyranny of the golden rule.

Oh and god help you if develop a gap in your almighty employment history, those HR assholes will tear you apart and leave you feeling suicidal.

But you know it's a feeder fish mentality, you either are looking for dinner or you are dinner.

I just get sick of hearing the lies about how everything is rosy and people that pick on others because their working steadily and the others aren't.

I think down deep, no one wants to be without the means to completely support themselves and having a good occupation that keep one afloat in this sea of complacency is synonymous with having just the slightest amount of personal pride. To be without it is like being adrift in the middle of the ocean and the basic needs for survival become the order of the day/week/month/year.

"The sun gets hot as hell, there is nothing to drink and oops, I seem to have forgotten my zinc oxide, let alone my rags that pass for clothes.

scott,
I didn't say anything mean to you.
I just asked you what your trade was,
I wasn't making fun of you or your situation.
I don't know what your situation is.
that is why I asked.

I'm fearfull of what's to come in my neck of the woods. They're going to make bridge toll electronic and cut a bunch of jobs at the Post Office, grocery stores...etc.

People who can't work aren't even getting the benefits they once had...seniors included.

Geez...had to get that out. Back to the discussion gentlemen.

Grant had widom on just working, even if it is just for 3-6 months, it brings cash in. There are any number of places, too, that specialize in helping thos who need special assistance. My wife worked at a place called Northeast Independent Living Program - she was one of the few people there who didn't have some type of disability (and eventually they let her go, too!)

To Krul's last post - things are tough everywhere. Took my wife 6-1/2 months to score antoher job (she started this week), a year ago she was out of work for 3-1/2 months.

I've noticed everyone in a grumpy state because of all this craziness. Maybe I'm sensitive, but I can't be the only one feeling a strange vibe of tension in the air. My happy-to-see-you attitude seems to irritate some of my buddies too. But, you can't be grumpy all the time. So I go against the grain. Self-absorbstion only makes the situation worse.

Krul, you are not overly sensitive. You are very observant.

N.Y. is spending big taxpayer bucks on television, to tell every one how business friendly we are and how wonderful everything is. Meanwhile people and business and wealthy people are fleeing this state to Florida, Texas, and all the states that still respect a persons property.

The disconnect of our ELECTED LEADERS from the common man that sanctioned their authority, is becoming clearer. National healthcare is a perfect example. 68% of Americans did NOT want this. Pelosi, Reed, and President Obama RAMMED THIS DOWN THE THROATS OF AMERICAN CITIZENS. The hidden consequences are yet to follow.

The real problem is thinking that the government has become more important... than WE THE PEOPLE!

I use the local Employment section in the news paper as a job barometer.

We used to have, say 5 pages of HELP WANTED ads.

Now we have not even 1/2 a page.

I don't know who's doing well, but I know a lot of people that are not doing well and I resemble that remark as well.

Take all the cheap shots you like, I don't mind at all because I try to be as honest and hard working as possible and it means exactly nothing, zero, zilch.

But you don't ever lose hope and you keep going one small step at a time, just like trying to walk out of the desert. If you take big steps, you may not make it at all especially if you have an extremely long distance to walk.

That explains a lot Mike, the hardest part of depression (imo) is recognizing when you are depressed. If you can do that, you will be able to endure with the realization that it will pass with some time. However, when you aren't aware that you're in an "episode" it could cause you to be angry/sad/fearful and not really know why.

I'm praying for you now (like it or not)

;-)
