As noted above, can someone point me to some churches in Baton Rouge that permit secular pop and soft rock, and that have a music program? Or maybe a coffee shop in my area where I can play? Also being able to play for some music teachers, and get the word out that way would also be helpful.

You guys on the right track, you guys just need to relax a little bit more.

I already have a method to get exposure. That's through YouTube. Yeah, I only have one video up, but I plan to post more, maybe even have a few blog posts explaining what I'm looking for.

RGMixProject wrote:Cliff I was the guy who suggested the YMCA. It was kind of a joke but then again its not really a joke because they do have a lot of people who hang out at the YMCA who do dabble in music just as you do. Really... no joke.
Now I am going to speak to you from experience. In Baton Rouge there is a Public Access Channel TV studio. You can go to that studio and produce with their help, a 30 min video of Cliff on keyboards. You can use this video to promote your ideas to 150,000 households in Baton Rouge. I ran a community access channel for 7 years and countless musicians got hooked up with other people just like you. It takes more effort from you… and you must take the first step to make things happen the way YOU want. I’m telling you from experience you will not find what you are looking for here however, you will find it at the YMCA, Community Access Channel and your local Community Education Programs that deal with music, “just sign up for a keyboard class and you will increases your odds of finding what your are looking for. You are wasting your time at music stores and music web sites.

Here is a link.

Now get your butt out there and get it done.

After reading that article about what Metro 21 is, that doesn't sound like something that a guy in his 20s or 30s would spend the day watching. Most guys my age probably don't watch TV, and instead watch various things on YouTube, and if they want to watch a TV show or something, they probably get it from Netflix or something. Metro 21 sounds like something a guy in his 70s would watch.

Someone who watches that channel knows someone who knows someone who has the same goals as you.

Are you to old to join the Boy Scouts?

Again, not being practical. If I tried your method, I'm going to run into a lot of the same problems I've had when posting ads on Craigslist, or at Guitar Center. There are too many things that can go wrong using your method. It's not going to correct the problems I'm having because I want to be able to make controlled, and more intimate connections, and being able to audition myself and the other guy who's interested in playing with me in person at the store, rather than reaching someone with mediocre skills or someone who's too far ahead and already playing in a committed band.

Could you please reccommend something that's not going to be quite so overwhelming?

Cliffy you better stop embracing all the reasons why you can't and embrace some reason you can.

If you don't get that, you might as well just give it the faq up, jr.

Scott, relax. It's not a matter of whether I can or can't, but rather the practicalness of the things people have suggested. The suggestions do not lend itself to focusing on making friends who just happen to enjoy playing some pop and soft rock music covers and improving our skills together and just hanging out but are too business oriented.

I'm trying to do this search at a place that I can be a part of both online and in person.

Here are the main problems I'm having in my search:

1. Reaching individuals who are a little too serious about playing music. In other words, individuals who play in a committed band or who work as music producers. I will only be general friends with these guys, and play music for them, and try to form quality networking circles with that person.
2. Reaching individuals who have mediocre skills, and don't know any of the songs I enjoy.
3. When posting ads in any form, not being able to monitor the ad easily to make sure it stays up, and not being able to mingle with the people at the place where I placed the request.

Help me correct some of these small annoyances. The suggestions that people have given so far have only added to the problems. And when I point out a flaw in a given suggestion, please listen, and work with me, instead of trying to convince me to try the suggestion or pointing fingers at me and saying things like "you need therapy" or "stop making excuses" among other things.

Also I need some help learning about some sites similar to this one in that you can create profiles and post some samples up, but one in which you don't have to pay to contact someone, because the individuals I'm looking for may not have that ability, due to them being college students working in retail, but who do make enough money to afford a keyboard and a laptop along with a good quality mixing program.

The more places online I can advertise what I play, AND chat with guys around my age who enjoy good quality pop and soft rock music, the more closer to success I'll be.

P.S.: I'm sorry if my posts get repetitive, and I'm sorry for those who are easily offended when I have a good reason for turning a given suggestion down, and who give up on me too easily. Don't let that get to you so much. You can do one of two things: forget about me and move on, or work with me and go the distance with me to find something that doesn't have any obvious limitations. I've had to take a lot of stuff with a grain of salt, as you can tell in this topic alone.

It would help to understand why people on here and on Baton Rouge Rocks think I'm crazy or need therapy. Is it the way in which I word my posts?

yes

Is it the fact that I'm specific in my posts?

yes

Is it the fact that I'm a complainer but complain in an effort to reach someone who can relate to my struggle, and who also has similar goals?

yes

,

And aside from that, it would help to know how to spot people on here who love to find a certain individual to just mess with and get a laugh from, and to know how to beat those individuals at their own game, from the individuals who are willing to go the distance with me, and work with me, instead of reaching those individuals who throw out one or two reccomendations, which I then point out a few flaws in, and kindly point out that it's not going to be very effective or work for me, and then that person gets all upset and starts the type of responses that GuitarMikeB gave.

Glambert, please take your medication. Your syndrome is back in cycle

Just relax guys. I am not here to cause any trouble.

yes you are. Stop your lies...

All of you guys, RELAX. I am seriously not here to offend anyone, or make trouble. If any one on here is annoyed, talk to me so I can find out what's annoying you.

Also why am I getting the third degree when trying to learn who the trolls and scammers are, and who are the nice guys willing to put their best foot forward and go the distance with me?

Clifford....I don't think most of these guys are annoyed with you- let me tell you my own diagnosis of what's happening here:

When people do point out your interesting and sometimes obtuse characteristics to you, instead of directly confronting the accusation you dodge it, often asking this same question in different ways: "why does everyone tell me I'm like this? Everywhere I go?"

And they continue to do so, as relentlessly as you insist there's no cause for it, creating this fascinating circular social engagement where instead of being an annoyance, you've become one of the most entertaining features on this web site, providing a limitless variety of hilarious responses to the same people responding to you the same way over and over again.

In conclusion CLifford, you needn't concern yourself that people here are upset or irritated by you. On the contrary, your presence here creates an environment where people who occasionally get bored with talking politics on the general music board can feel free to tackle something utterly absurd and inconsequential, and take great delight in so doing. :D
