The RBX 170 OVS is a beginner's bass (huh?) that I absolutely fell in love with. It has nice tone, it has a weird limiter thing I don't understand but I use it every where I would play a bass. (Show me a genre I don't like and I go to my bass like a fish to water.)
When I used it with Les, the limiter function (huh?) showed it's hand immediately and the bass track was well defined and yet not over the top.
The P-bass that I was using before over there had no such feature.
I've used it a bunch of times since and it's uncanny. It hasn't let me down and it simply won't misfret a note, thus it's an immediate favorite.
And it looks like some expensive instrument as well, even though it wasn't. (OVS stands for OLD Violin Sunburst, their moniker, not mine.)
Only bad thing is you have to watch the neck as it wants to bow.
So I just keep it stable and play it offten to make sure it's still behaving. Otherwise I'd just take it to someone and have the truss rod turned/set up again.
If you don't like what I say, you can
