I checked my big concert book - saw TYA at the Music Hall in Boston on October 4, 1972 (Rick and Roll Music to the World Tour). Funny that I went to the show - I had stood in line out on Tremont Street for 3 hours to get Neil Young tickets - back in those days they were sold only at the box office. They were letting in a handful of people at a time through the front glass doors to the ticket window. There were 2 people in front of me when a sign got taped to the door - 'Neil Young sold out'! After skipping school, and taking the bus to Boston to get tickets, I wasn't going to go home empty-handed, so I went in and found out they had Ten Years After tickets for the show in a couple of weeks, ended up with about 20th row. Opening band was Ramatam, with hot chick-guitarist April Lawton and Hendrix's drummer Mitch Mitchell.

Interesting article in the New York Times on Alvin Lee.

You purist on here should read it, it says he refused to play Id Love To Change The World in concert cause it was a pop song.

Thought I would post this:

I'm guessing there was more to it than that John - the song was more "produced" than what the band usually did, with the multi-layered guitar parts, and was probably pretty hard to pull off live. Come to think of it, I've never seen a band cover that one either.

I remember reading an interview with Blue Oyster Cult, how they dreaded playing their big hit "Don't Fear The Reaper" live. As I recall they ended up changing the key, making it easier to play.

I had heard that before. A great song and he hated to play it live.

Jimmy me and my ole college pick up band 4 Drunk Fukkas used to play that song, of course we took a way different approach, but yea its a thick song. I may need to revisit it, just for shits and giggles.

Jimmy I never like Dont Fear The Reaper myself, not that it matters.

We used to do Citys Aflame and Godzilla, those are the only BOC songs Ive ever done.

Citys A Flame was awesome, it would hold up today, I need to find it and relearn it and try to pull it off one night before my bassist gets away!

"Cities On Flame" was a great one, the lead rips. We do "Godzilla" in the cover band, that's a fun one.

I just learned Burning For You by BOC for the new band. I'm using the PS5 harmonizer to duplicate the dual harmony intro lead. We have a gig tomorrow night maybe they'll shoot some video. If I can get my hands on it I'll post it!

They did a tribute to Alvin on the Sunday morning blues show on a local radio station. Heard 'The Bluest Blues' - what a great song, adding it to my solo open-mic set for next week!
