Firewood is expensive up this way, too. Lot of folks in New Hampshire use pellet stoves, but the pellets are expensive - but its cheaper than oil or propane. Those who use firewood as their primary heat source typically spend a lot of their free time clearing out storm damaged trees, etc, to collect their wood.
I'm just lucky we've got piped natural gas where I live. My heating bill has actually gone down in the last 2 years.
