"Roto-Rooter that's the name
and away go troubles
down the drain"

anybody wonder what ever happened to the catchy jingles they used to play on TV advertisements from long ago?..now it just seems there are fancy schmancy synthesizer soundtracks with overkill synthetic percussion without a catchy phrase fto make that jingle really stand out.. maybe it's just me growing old..

At one time commercials were only on the radio, and they had to have catchy lyrics/music since there was no image, just sound. Now marketers have a range of visual tricks to get your attention so the need for catchy words/jingles is less important.

Yeah I think you have to listen to local channels, where my wife is from they have a localized cable company, and a lot of the commercials and jingles remind me of the old ones we all grew up with, you know the ones that stick in your head.

Correct -the jingles are used by local companies (and usually aren't very good). Big advertisers pay to use pieces of popular music (examples - Carnival Cruise Lines paying Todd Rundgren to rerecord "Bang on the Drum" for their commercials; Bob Seger's "Like a Rock" for Chevy).
