You ever have one of those gigs where everything just falls into place, where you seem like you playing effortlessly and the crowd just ramps up and up.

My band Aint Yo Mama had one of those sat night. Ive got some video once I get it put somewhere I will try to post some.

It was weird we played a couple of songs warming up, and then the crowd just really got into it, ussually its the second set before people start dancing and cutting up, but halfway thru the first set they were going crazy.

We took a break and the second set it really got rocking, we didnt want to quit, my wife said the second set was an hour and a half long. Didnt seem like it, it just flew by cause the crowd was all over us.

Andy the bass player came over one time and said man can you believe we get paid to do this? It was funny as heck!

Ive watched some of the video and I cant say I was playing my best, if anything I had some tuning issues on a couple of songs, I think because I was so into it that I was really manhandling the guitar strings. I played a few songs on My Gibson ES guitar and actually knocked the low e out of the bridge saddle at one point, I just oops time to switch to Blackie.

Kinda sad also, cause weve only got two more shows booked before our bassist leaves, so Im gonna enjoy it for what it is.

A funny side note, this guy came over to my side and was watching me play, he looked familiar, finally between songs he walks over and says Man I used to go to Sidestreet and watch you guys when I was 14 yrs old, I said how old are you now, he said 35! 21 years we have been a small part of this guys life, pretty wild when I think about, our band has outlived so many bands time wise.

Another gal came up and said you guys played my birthday party back in 93, she said you remember the police came and shut it down, she said well the guy who had the party died a couple of years ago. Heres what I remember, the police came when we were playing Outshined, they talked to me and the guy who owned the house. They said if we have to come back again someone is going to jail. SO we started tearing down. I still had my guitar amp hooked up and this guy comes over and says play some more. I said Chad they said someone is going to jail and it aint gonna be me. His GF is standing there and says Chad if you go to jail and I have to post bail we cant afford the new washing machine. He kinda said yea I guess your right we need a new washing machine. LOL

I mentioned the police came to that party for the song Outshined this is an inside joke with us, we used to play all these outdoor partys and there was a stretch of time where everytime we played Outshined the law would come and bust the party up. I had told my wife this many times, and one day I was going thru some old VHS tapes of partys we played and Outshined was on there and I was joking that the Police always came when we played that song, she probably thought I was making that up, and then on the tape you see the police come in and I have it all on camera, I dont know who took the video or how I got it, but it just cracks me up finding stuff like that, I didnt even remember this party.

Guess Im getting a little nostalgic, I will try the next day or two to add a couple of live videos from the gig, so folks can see what its like playing in my band.

Ain't it grand to look back and realize the things that lead up to, and ultimately explain the great moments you had the other night.

Its funny, how observers can see you today in that moment of glory, and yet many totally miss the part about what it took to get to this moment!.

Rock On JW! :)

Rock and roll will keep you young - the Who proved that last night in Manchester. Audience was up ion its feet all night, and in general older than dirt!

The guy who was 35 said man Ive seen you guys all these years and you still rock, and look like you guys are having a great time.

But your right, you go thru a lot of stuff to be able to do gigs, and have any sort of impact on others.

Its great when it all falls into place, like i said I didnt think I was playing that great, but the vibe was strong from the minute we started til we got done.

I invited this gal from a club that wanted us to play, but all she had to offer was March 30th which is Easter Weekend, I had told her that we really didnt want to do that weekend, didnt think our audience would make a full showing being Easter. I talked to her before the first set and just said after the set lets get my guys together and see what we can work out. When I get done with a set I always retune and check everything out and she was meeting with the other guys in the band, I went over and she decided to put us in her club March 23 instead of March 30th. I said I thought you told me the other day you were already booked that date, she said Im gonna bump those guys to another date, she said Ive get to get you guys at least once. She went on to say, you guys are the best club band Ive ever seen, you guys should be playing concert halls. I thought that was a pretty good compliment coming from a club owner. I just hope the band she bumped arent friends of mine, I will catch hell over that! Plus she agree to pay our full asking price. $250 more than she ussually pays bands to play.

Sounds like a fun gig John. The crowd was into it and you generated another one on the 23rd. In the end, you were having fun and your connection with the crowd is all that matters. No one will remember if you played flawlessly or managed to fat-finger a few.

LOL, my drummer kept saying we have Prince on guitar tonight, so between songs I would go over to him and say Im gonna play this song Prince Style.

I get ribbed for the sh*t I wear all the time,I dont care, I hate to go see a band that looks like they just came out of the garage or something, I think if they are paying to see me play, I should at least make it look like I went a little extra mile to entertain them.

I was wearing my snake skin boots also, this farmer came up to me between sets and we got into this long conversation about different types of boots, he said what are those? I said they are my Freddie T boots. He said Freddie Ts, Ive never heard of those. I said Freddie T was my pet python and when he got sick i had him made into boots, and Ive got the matching belt also! LOL, he just said I dont know if your full of sh*t or telling the truth! LOL!

Yeah I catch hell from my mom and dad sometimes about my gig clothes, I scare my mom and say I think I will wear some of those clothes to church sometimes!

You gotta keep folks on their toes you know, and do it with swagger!
