Here goes my first (and likely last) participation in a religious or political thread.

Ok, so why does it have to be one or the other? How are you "robbed of the joy of giving" when you can still give money to causes you believe in and you can still volunteer your time to help those in need? The "joy of giving" shouldn't mean any less to you or those you're helping out.

As far as "creating resentment among all"...speak for yourself. I have no problem with my tax dollars going to help those (truly) in need.

I don't hate anyone except for those that are elitist.

I openly profess that I don't understand Humanism, but I like the sound of it.

I like Humans just fine, I just have trouble finding any.. LOL
Most are sub-human and think of the rest of us as so much wood for their fires.

Who have YOU helped today? Didn't see anyone that needed help?
Maybe you just aren't looking very hard...or blind as a bat and deaf to the cries of others. Maybe you just don't give a fat crap...

Everyone is just fine until they fall from grace, then they think the world needs to embrace them. But did they embrace others when they were strong? probably not. After all, the short sighted behavior is almost status quo these days.

I'd rather be a Humanist than a Roboticist. lol

I didn't say that christian weren't involved. I thought that was made crystal clear?

What I said was that neither Hitler nor any of his henchman were christians as defined by Christ or the bible. Ancient Greek, Roman, Spanish, British, and German attitudes towards the jews found their way into european theological writings throughout the centuries. All the Nazis did was use religion to manipulate the people. Just like atheists do in reverse.

So if we're going to blame Hitler as some kind of christian example, then turnabout is fair play. Stalin and Mao were atheists who murdered many more people than Hitler. I'm saying that all of them were godless people, and only a godless individual would be capable of such carnage.

America is no better, btw. We've already murdered more unborn children than all who died in WWII. There will be hell to pay.

It sounded like that is what you were saying.
Being "involved" is an understatement.

Stalin was raised Catholic
Mao was raised Buddhist
They both converted to communism.

Apparently, you didn't watch the earlier video of "God's people" doing "his work" this past month.

As for abortion....

NIGGA PLEASE!

I can't speak for others but I gave $20k last year to serve those in need both locally, regionally and internationally. My family also supports individual children on 3 continents. Our home group prepared Thanksgiving and Christmas meals for 6 families who were going without. We regularly participate in serving 600 needy families with basic food, clothing, housing, car and bike repair, mobile medical care in nearby communities as well as outreach in South Central LA and a week long trip to serve in Mikes home town of Detroit last summer due to the tremendous need there.

The joy of giving is something I do know a little about. And yes I do personally resent government intrusion into this. They do it poorly and get it all wrong. As always YMMV.

that's great that you're literally putting your money where your mouth is and my hat's off to both you and your wife for walking the walk.

i understand your resentment of what you view as gov't intrusion....but as was asked above.....why should it diminish your (or anyone's) "joy of giving"?

I'd feel better about myself if I could give up that much cash to a needy cause..

I don't even know the widow.

I resent the government squandering tax dollars on all the wrong things (corporate welfare, expansive militarism, etc.) and it DOES usually do a half-assed job of everything it touches.
But, that is still better than nothing.

I really gotta thank Johnny7 for the work he does, though.
Individuals like him are sorely needed to pick up where government falls short or screws up.
But, people like him cannot do it ALL by themselves.
That is why the government is still necessary.

The Parable of the Widow's Mite condensed:

Witnessing the donations made by the rich men, Jesus highlights how a poor widow donates only two mites, the least valuable coins available at the time. But, Jesus observes, this sum was everything she had to her name, while the other people give only a small portion of their own wealth.
