Why do people here keep reccommending I go to bars or clubs, or that I go to churches to find some keyboard players who are into SECULAR pop and soft rock music, but are ignoring the type of audience that normally attends those places?

1. Most churches in my area do not permit secular pop and soft rock music within their walls. Most people around my age at a church will not be into any of the pop artists I enjoy. Most will be individuals who are devoted to God and Jesus, and who see secular pop and soft rock as corrupt.
2. Bars and clubs are on the EXACT opposite end of the spectrum. They do accept most any genre of music, but they are dangerous places due to those places attracting lots of people that love to go out at night and get drunk. I do not want to be part of that crowd.**

Are there any places where there is some middle ground; a place where I'll know secular pop and soft rock will be accepted, but where I'll know I'm in a safe environment and one that meets during the daytime? And also one where I can meet other like-minded musicians, but who aren't active performers? This is because I'm looking for a keyboard player who is more of an electronic music studio dude, as opposed to individuals who actively play in bands.

Please, help me expand my knowledge of what else I can try. I came here to learn, not to make others angry.


Finding at least one guy around my age who loves playing music by some of my favorite secular pop and soft rock music artists from the 80s to the present would mean a lot to me.

Be cool when you post in my topics. If there is something you don't understand, do NOT be afraid to ask, and do not get upset whenever I use common sense to explain to you why some of these current suggestions aren't going to be very effective.

Why a Church... because it's a place where you can safely meet kids your age. Get it through your thick skull not everyone who goes to church is a F'ing Saint. That's why some of them go!

Well, not them exactly, but I've heard that saying through artists like Pink, Kelly Clarkson, Madonna, and even Adam Lambert, but I didn't know it was THAT cruel. Also NO ONE is going to be a saint, but again, I will have a VERY slim chance at finding another guy at a church who's into playing music by Adam Lambert, Madonna, Whitney Houston, NSync, Celine Dion and other secular artists, let alone someone who plays KEYBOARD.

There has got to be something else.

Also another thing to remember about churches is that every church has it's own set of rules and services. Church A might be a non-denominationl church that accepts some secular pop and soft rock but may not have a music club while church B ONLY allows Christian music, and which DOES have a music group.

I might consider checking out another church in my area if I could talk to someone here and learn about some good ones in my area that accept some of my favorite pop and soft rock artists, and where I don't have to commit actually attending the services themselves, but could maybe converse online.

Simply giving an example of a case where A GROUP was playing Lady Gaga music at a church isn't enough. I'm not interested in being part of a group, but rather looking for a singular keyboard player. Someone who doesn't perform at the church in any shape or form.

Also keep in mind that I would like this musician to be someone who isn't committed to attending church in general, and is attending for the same reason I'm going: to find a special friend who enjoys playing pop and soft rock music, and after finding said individual, stop attending.

I would like to be able to audition the individuals as well to find out if they have the skillset and the passion for the artists/songs I'm looking for. Also since I'm looking to learn about how to do electronic mixing, and recording, I need to know if he has a good setup at his house.

You need to stop whining and get a life. You'll find that simpler if you start caring about what others want and stop playing the wounded poet whom nobody understands.

It seems like the last time you brought all this drama, it had already been determined that the best place to find your "dream guy" was through a gay dating site?

Why are you using the term "dream guy"? Remember, the guy I'm looking for CANNOT be found on a dating site. That's the WORST place to look due to people using those sites for, well, DATING. I need to be able to sample some of the stuff he plays, and see if he already kinows some of the songs I'm working on. Didn't any of you guys LISTEN to some of the songs I shared? Dating sites are not going to provide that ability.

I'm NOT full of excuses. I'm trying to use common sense here. You guys need to do the same thing before you throw out some random reccommendation. Think about the audience the music I play appeals to rather than your own experiences.

And so what if I have high expectations. I want to reach someone GOOD, and someone who has a passion for more of the artists I enjoy, not your typical musician who is willing to play anything even if he hates the music by the artists I enjoy.

Help to share the knowledge if you can. Help me learn about some venues in Baton Rouge that are not churches or bars or clubs. That's all I ask.

Also as noted, if one of you guys can show me a GOOD church in my area that doesn't consider pop and soft rock music to be taboo, share it with me.
