Hi, my name is Clifford and I'm a 29 year old guy who loves playing pop and soft rock music on my keyboard.

I've been on this search since 2007, but I have been having trouble trying to find another guy around my age in my city who also enjoys playing pop and soft rock music, and who is simply looking for a buddy to hang out with. Someone who's a little bit more advanced than me, but who doesn't actually work in music, and doesn't play in a committed band.

Music is about persistence, at least you got that Cliff.

Good Luck

Any good ideas on how I can more effectively reach this audience, while at the same time taking into consideration that I'm visually impaired, and therefore cannot drive, and that I don't have a job and am not in college.

Therefore, I would need to reach someone who not only fits some of the musical qualities I'm looking for but who I can become good friends with. Posting ads alone is not enough, and of course, I have only one song up.

The reason why I'm trying to find a guy who's not already busy with other music projects is so that the whole thing can be a casual activity. Something fun for him to do after class ends or after he gets off work, and also just in case we decide to do some shows or something, he won't have to break his current band or turn me down.

Also remember that I'm not only looking for a keyboard player, but someone who's more of a studio musician. Someone who I can learn more about electronic music mixing and recording with, and recreat some of my favorite dance-pop songs and ballads, as well as creating new ones.

Be cool, OK? Don't start anything. I'm not here to annoy anyone. I'm here to learn about how to more effectively reach my intended audience.

Dear Clifford,

You start most all of it yourself...You need no help from me..
Just wait and see. I am quite sure you will do what you did before, but I won't push you closer to the edge..quite the contrary.

good luck "Iffy Cliffy" lol

Again, please, be cool. I am not the one that starts anything. But things usually take a turn for the worst when I have to explain something to someone, and then that person thinks I'm shitting on him, or is overwhelmed with all the information or confused or thinks I'm making excuses, and then one thing leads to another until things get out of control to the point where the other guy can't be reasoned with and he ends up trashing me and everybody starts following that guys lead instead of listening to me.

I am trying to gain some useful knowledge about how to better go about reaching my target audience. It's going to take a lot of asking around, and talking to various people about how to make effective use of various websites and venues, rather than the all too common "DIY" ethic I keep running into.

Keep in mind that if this guy I'm looking for is here, he is likely not going to have a upgraded account, and thus will have to contact me some other way. Also keep in mind that this guy cannot be found at one place. Having a wider variety of places to advertise myself and what I'm looking for helps, rather than the two places that I've been currently using, i.e. Bandmix, and posting a request at Guitar Center, both of which are not very reliable. I need more tools. This includes being able to make some general friends along the way, for example, picking a seondary activity (like playing video games).

I haven't been doing it lately, but also asking around on the Baton Rouge Musician section of Craigslist is not very reliable either. I need to reach more music teachers in my area who teach more advanced students who share my passion for good pop and soft rock music.

Move to NJ, Cliffy.

Soft rock/pop are all the rage or so it would seem. (yecch)

Meanwhile, I bet I could do "psycho-delic blues" in Baton Rouge with very little issue(s) at all.

Funny how things work out..

PS: Staten Island is the same type of thing...everything in the tristate area sounds the same. (boo-hooo) lol

If I have to keep working with pop and soft rock alt acts, I may take up boating... Sailing is looking better and better. LOL

I know I have no intentions of playing the crocodile rock game, either.
Too soft and too clean makes "Johnny" a boring dude.

You have any music up, Cliffy? Lemme look..oof only that video?

Cliffy, you are kind of robotic to say the least...
Have you ever considered playing with a click track or metronome?
I think it would do you well...especially playing alone like in that video.

So basically, if anyone here would like to help me out in this search, don't be afraid to share your knowledge, not just in terms of what to do or where to go, but also HOW to go about using whatever is suggested, unlike so many times before when someone would reccommend something he hasn't used himself or where the guy would be like "Google it yourself".

First off, moving is not an option. I need to keep the search within my city. If this search was more about pursuing a real career in music, I wouldv'e considered that option long ago.

Also note the bolded section: those are some of the many things that I would like to do with this keyboard player. But again, think about it from a buddy-buddy standpoint, and a friends teaching friends, rather than an actual superior/business musician.

The idea is to also set aside some time for other casual activities, whether it's on the same day, or on a different day. Like playing video games, or meeting a couple of friends for a birthday party or Christmas party, or whatever.

Cliffy, I play with a click track when I record...
(my timing isn't all that and a handbag)

I also practice with a metronome at home...
(it helps)

Music business? I don't run anything, I work p/t in a studio but that's about it. I get free time at the studio because I help write for people that can't/won't do it but it's hardly anything I will get rich on.
(I don't even get cited for writing what I write for other entities.)(wrinkled nose look)

If I am lucky, I'll have my own CD out this summer and that's about it.

Oh yeah and I got 10$ for the guy I made a bet with about the online collab that nose dived into the murky waters of obscurity...geeze I wish I could remember his name.

Hey, I wasn't criticizing you or anything. I was pointing out that my requests have been reaching individuals who either work as a music producer, or who already play in a band, rather than someone who simply goes to college, and just happens to be looking for a friend to hang out with and play some music with.

And also my requests tend to reach individuals who are your typical bar and club goers, as opposed to someone who stays away from that environment.
