Mikey, I would venture to say that 95% of people in the entertainment industry are Liberal. Having said that, they are actors and entertainers right?

I don't like getting pushed around for being a Jew, and I don't think Christians like getting pushed around for  being Christians.  I think people who believe in God are  sick and tired of getting pushed around, period.  I have no  idea where the concept came from, that America is an explicitly  atheist country.  I can't find it in the Constitution and I  don't like it being shoved down my throat...

Or maybe I  can put it another way: where did the idea come from that we  should worship celebrities and we aren't allowed to worship God  as we understand Him?

In  light of recent events... terrorists attack, school shootings,  etc..  I think it started when Madeleine Murray O'Hare (she  was murdered, her body found a few years ago) complained she  didn't want prayer in our schools, and we said OK.  Then  someone said you better not read the Bible in school...   The Bible says thou shalt not kill; thou shalt not steal, and  love your neighbor as yourself.  And we said  OK.

Then Dr. Benjamin Spock said we shouldn't spank our  children when they misbehave, because their little personalities  would be warped and we might damage their self-esteem (Dr.  Spock's son committed suicide).  We said an expert should  know what he's talking about..  And we said  okay..

Now we're asking ourselves why our children have  no conscience, why they don't know right from wrong, and why it  doesn't bother them to kill strangers, their classmates, and  themselves.

Funny how simple it is  for people to trash God and then wonder why the world's going to  hell.  Funny how we believe what the newspapers say, but  question what the Bible says.

Funny how lewd, crude, vulgar and  obscene articles pass freely through cyberspace, but public  discussion of God is suppressed

My Best Regards,  Honestly and  respectfully,

Ben  Stein

You can read your Bible in school, as long as it's not a public school.

i'm pretty sure the concept that there IS a concept of america being an atheist country is a creation of those banging the loudest on their religion drums.

Or maybe I  can put it another way: where did the idea come from that we  should worship celebrities and we aren't allowed to worship God  as we understand Him?

no one is stopping you from worship. just don't do it in a public school and i don't care who or what you worship. jesus, buddah, allah, allen arkin, rosie o'donnel...no skin off my big jewish/atheist nose.

how about bad parenting, violent video games, a culture that worships guns, and the dumbing down of EVERYTHING? i get it....you and many other religious folks see the cause of our decline as a result of taking god and the bible out of school. others have different ideas.

as i see it both the bible and newspapers are/were written by man. so i take neither at face value or as "the gospel"

i don't recall seeing ANY obscenity on this site.... but there's certainly no shortage of discussion of god here.

More liberal ignorance to deny the INALIENABLE rights given to us in the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and Bill of Rights.

Public schooling was started by christians. The bible is the greatest, most enduring piece of literature in world history. So keeping it out of the classroom is a big contributor to the illiteracy of modern students, not to mention the downfall of America's status of world leader in education, and the corruption of morality that gives us mass murders today.

You whine about what your solutions have given us constantly, and yet you are the problem.

I realize reading comprehension is tough on liberals, but that was a direct quote from Ben Stein...a man known for brilliant thinking...and a Jew.

He's absolutely right whether a liberal can muster up enough intelligence and intellectual honesty to admit it.

Your religion does not trump mine. Yet you don't have the integrity to allow views other than your own intolerant one.

Typcial hypocrite.

wow, so it's the bible being taken out of the classroom...THAT's what's to blame for illiteracy????

my, my....that's a good one.

as for reading the bible in public school... students are still allowed to do that. on recess. on their lunch break. or after school waiting for the bus.

Hardly.
After 40 years, he is just now beginning to admit that maybe Reaganomics wasn't such a good idea.

I can think of hundreds of books that are greater right off the top of my head. As a collection of parables and stories it's good, as long as you don't take what it says literally. It is, after all, a work of fiction.
