Hey John, I had forgot about Kiss alive 1- Good catch!

That was a truly great album, worthy of being on the list. I too listened to it for hours when I was like 8 years old back in the 70's.. Between that, Boston's only album (at the time), and the queen album with 'we will rock you'.. I wanted nothing but a guitar in my hands even at that early age!

But it was in 1980, the first time I heard 'all the worlds a stage' that drove me to the guitar most directly.. damn that was a tasty album!

Zep is my favorite band but I didnt include the Song Remains The Same, cause i prefer thier studio albums, nothing wrong with SRTS, but I heard bootlegs of them live that sounded a hell of a lot better than that one.

I highly recommend it - there is some great playing in it

my feelings on SRTS was that the performance was far better than any other live zep I've ever heard- The original audio quality was not great, but the performance was- and the digital remaster cleaned up the audio problems, leaving a very crisp and dynamically pleasing product.

They were a very sloppy band live, and regardless of the recording quality or moments of zen, most of their other live stuff is riddled with imperfections in performance, something I have a hard time with listening to personally.

Ironically, the radio just played a live version of livin lovin maid, I think from that wild west album.. it might sound good dynamically, but page's performance in that was embarrassing. I'm surprised he thought it was good.

but he is still by far my favorite guitarist, cause its not just about the guitar, its the whole mythical thing about them, its the album production, its Grants management, they really changed the way rock bands viewed themselves, and they have had enough sense not to become a lounge act

I think the reason they arent a lounge act is because of Plant, I believe Page would go on tour in a minute if he could get Plant on board

On the thread subject I guess Im not the biggest fan of live albums. I prefer the album versions of songs.

Page should tour with a all-star backing band like he did with the black crowes ..... he didnt seem all drugged up last month on TV like I thought he was ....

I guess we are polar opposites when it comes to live music .... its all bootlegs for me ... all live stuff ....
I do love Floyd and Zep .... both are favs .... great studio bands

Didn't Zep always play while f*cked-up?
I know Aerosmith did.

When I saw Zeppelin Jimmy Page was drinking a huge bottle of wine and was totally drunk by the end of the show. He had also slammed his fingers in a train door a few days prior to the concert.

I never saw Zep live, I have a bunch of live I assume bootleg stuff I found over the years, in collge we used to listen to a lot of live bootlegs of Hendrix.

hands down favorite live album for me is "Rock Of Ages" from The Band. just a brilliant, brilliant album w allan toussaint doing horn arrangements. one of the all time great intros on that album too.

"Live At Leeds" a close second.

haven't listened to it in awhile but CCR has a live album they did as a trio (minus tom fogerty) that i remember as being pretty good.

oooh, one more... the "Untitled" Byrds album....ridiculous tele work from clarence white and special to me cos' i was at that concert.

Been working hard on compiling my studio album list and it's already over 200 albums! For this list, no live material and no compilations (best of) are accepted. Whittling that down to 100 might be impossible.

I saw Zep live on the Song Remains the Same tour - Providence RI, a few days prior to the Madison Square shows that were taped for the live album.
I was sitting in the first few rows of the side loge, 30 feet from Page when he sauntered over near the PA speakers. He was phenomenal at that show. (Drunk or not)

Most of my favorites have been listed but I have to so - Who Live At Leeds is quite simply outstanding.

The Nightwish Live Album (End of an Era) was downright spectacular. That is one outfit that sounds the same live as on record. Or used to. After this performance they fired Tarja, the original singer. Never quite it as right after that.
