I've just started trying to record my stuff (over the last year or so) and had poor results with Audacity.

Working on the assumption that I know little, would Reaper be the right way to go for me?

Of course! Thanks! I have heard that my whole life but rarely. Like 8 times in 25 years. There has to be something to it as I have gotten it independently. It truly is something I can't imagine be able to change. It's the shape of the passages in my head that dictate the tone.
