the connoisseurs that frequent this board might give her an upgrade to "elevator music" a step above "lounge music"

No doubt this will be dismissed as "lounge music" by some here but damn, this gal can play. Gotta give points for her tone too!

She is a top athlete (bass wise)... Definitely could hang with the titans...

I don't think its elevator or lounge music...Its Jazz. But, for some reason, Jazz doesn't just doesnt move my personal soul... So All I can say is that she articulates extremely well..

She's pretty good.
I wouldn't mind checking out her CD.
I can't play upright bass yet.
It's like learning a whole new instrument.

Lounge music?
Nah.
Kenny G is more loungey than her.
She seems more like a throwback to players from the 40's-50's, which I like very much.

so mike, when you say "...yet" does that mean you're working on playing upright? i (sorta) agree...it is a different instrument to play but not entirely. there are plenty of shared things that do translate. but it sure is about DESIRE!

our regular bassplayer in Mere Mortals couldn't make prct last night so i filled in on the big dawg. only a week since i'd played it but man, did it ever kick my sad ARSE!

Lounge music?
Nah.
Kenny G is more loungey than her.

duuuude, kenny g is more loungey than...EVERYONE! actually, i don't even consider him lounge music. more like "hot tub music"

when i think of "lounge music" i think of bill murray doing his lounge lizard bit on SNL crooning "Staaaaaar Waaaaaars" or some poor schmuck in a holiday inn playing billie joel tunes w a bad drum machine.

referring to any "for real" jazz musician playing at a high level as "lounge music"..that's just plain insulting.

I don't have an upright.
Not enough money.
I was hoping to eventually get an Ampeg baby upright.
I like those.

i was real disappointed the first time i played an Ampeg Baby Bass and w ones i later played. they have very, very quick decay and almost no sustain to them. (for the record i do think "sustain" has always been given way too much importance in the bass world...esp for elec basses. i mean how often do you need to sustain a note for longer than one measure???)

their quick decay is why they've always been popular in afro cuban (salsa) music.

they do look super cool but if you're looking for an EUB (elec upright bass) there are better choices imo.
