I heard that this morning, it's an odd tune/video. When I first met The Stooges in 1974 at a party everyone looked like Bowie, with feathered boas and wild hair and makeup.

...Berlin has always been a rather od but intense city unlike any other in Europe I feel. 10 years is a long time so it will be very interesting to see where he is at now. I have always loved Bowie.

This is weird, even for Bowie.

At one point in the video he's wearing a t-shirt that says "Song for Norway" but the whole song is about places in Berlin.

I'm ordained through a church that has an office at Pottdamer Platz and have been to all the places he mentions and that are in the film....but nothing he's saying makes much sense. Wasn't that always Bowie's schtick?

Anyway...wondering about the girl he's attached to. Did he get married or something?

He seems rather geriatric in this, almost like singing in his sleep.

I saw him in 72 - 2nd or 3rd show EVER in the USA. He was 25 years old then, and my 3rd row seats were $5.50. His tour 10 years ago was pretty good - he was 56 then (my age now). Hope I'm still making music in 10 years, even if it is sad lamentations.

Not everything merits deep meaning. I happen to know from people who have worked with David Bowie, that he's a lot of tongue in cheek, doesn't take himself very seriously, and is a very reflective artist...
So I been told...

This video is brilliant in that he's showing us the box he carved out for himself, and I gather that for all the twists and angles, he woke up and realized non-conformity was just another style of conformity. Ooops there I go again...reading into his work...

David Bowie always struck me as being more of an actor than a musician.
He was always changing the roles he played.
Each album was like he was being a different character.

Don't let Iggy's on stage personna fool you, he's a deep thinker and would keep up quite well on any of these threads. When we met we talked about a great number of subjects, from religion to politics to music to the future. He's also a good businessman, and knew how to get his name infamous. His schtick is to antagonize the audience and get some kind of reaction or involvement. Bowie is the consummate showman, but don't let that fool you either, he's a hell of a musician - he can play guitar, bass, keyboards, sax, drums and has one of the better voices in r&r. He played all the instruments on the "Diamond Dogs" album.

That new video is kinda creepy to me, it just seems like he is looking back on his career, or a portion of it when he was in Berlin. Its not something I would buy, but the guy is an icon, and was a master at reinventing himself thru the years, also wrote some killer songs thru the years.

Me and a buddy used to jam to his records in our dormitory in college, in fact I almost got kicked out of the dorms one weekend, back then I had a rockman run into my stereo to practice at low levels, well that weekend I didnt have a gig and had my big amp, my buddy said lets hook that bad boy up. I cant remember which song I was playing, either Ziggy Played Guitar, or Suffragette City, but the campus police busted my ass, and i had to go before the student board!

You were on double secret probation after that! You have to play that record loud! One of those that the vinyl sounds a lot better than the Cd.

There are several types of songwriters and one of those types is the actor type. i fall into that category in fact.

Some folks write about their loves, their experiences, others write about the expeiences and feelings of the character they are channeling when they write the song.

I tried for years to explain that to my ex who was sure I had all these weird feelings and I'd tell her - that's not me! It's the guy in the song!
EG "I hate the city but I need the violence" - that line was from the mouth of a character in my song - nothing to do with me.
