Best Quote Ive ever seen on here!
"As an amateur, I like to play guitar for fun. Good rock bands have that sound that they are having fun on their most successful recordings. If I can't make playing fun to me and others playing along or listening, I would be just as happy to stuff it."
You might as well go ahead and stuff it!

Thanks Capt, I hadnt listened to it in a while and it still sounds pretty good to me, just a few mess ups here and there, I guess thats my song about Identity Theft or something of that nature!
Oh one disclaimer, I didnt do the lead work, a guy named Craig Yates came in and threw that on it. He was my mentor or early teacher, we just never could seem to play together, it got way too loud to hear what either of us were doing, and I guess Im to blame for that.

I'll just present my lyrics to bands. It takes a musician to hear the music. If lyrics aren't music, what is left. Noisy guitars. Good luck with that. The Captain has never even been a private, and you're calling him a Captain. Follow his lead on who is sane and whom is not. Your reputation, not mine. Hitler took 6 months to be dictator. This is why. Tell a lie often enough... I suppose you don't want to hear this. you only hear what what you wanna' believe. But you don't have to be a refugee. ChieF? Captain? Of what? Insults and Slander... I'll bet he's got a DRs in psychology too. Can't write a song though. Follow your Captain/Chief, you know, where he goes. I'll dump on top of that landfill.

This other sh*t started from an attack they call captain. BAH. Who's insane? Anything previously submitted counts with the exception that to enter you must have written the song.

Kinda Joe Walshish, or even Monkeys. Guitars have a Steve Miller quality. I don't have to win this challenge, I just want to be on the board. Listening to your jam, it is broke up. I want to try to make sense of your lyrics. It sounds like something needing promotion. The sound is there.

New Year's Eve and these guys that pose as pros can't get a gig. Hmmmm.
I've openly admitted to being a a music hobyist. These guys can't give me good advice on the next step past my lyrics. Just put me down as crazy. High powered crazy. Bull's eye! Now, let's get back to talking about ant farms.

Lyrics are the LAST thing I'm concerned about.
If the music is good enough, you can sing about someone wearing depends diapers or something and people will still dig it.
I've tried to collect information about the different approaches composers take when writing.
Then, I'm kinda combining some of them together into my own songwriting style.
Maybe this will help you too.
Alcohol & caffeine sometimes helps.
No comment on weed or hallucinogens.
Important tool: tape recorders!
Something you can keep nearby and just hit "record" on at any time.
Notepad & writing utensil: keep them nearby with the tape recorders!
If you're practicing, just freestyle jamming, keep the tape rolling.
Something usually comes up while you're playing old Beatles riffs.
It's a good idea to practice like this on a regular schedule; daily, weekly, whatever.
Just try to be consistent.
If you aren't practicing, but have an idea, don't waste time getting your instrument just yet.
Your tape recorder should always be nearby.
So, just sing the melody acappella into the recorder.
If you're sure you've got it, THEN grab an instrument and try to recreate what you just did into the recorder.
Fill up lots of tapes like this.
Probably only a small percentage of what you've got will be really any good anyway.
Dig through the tapes later and look for pieces that are really good.
Make some notes in your notepad about them.
Maybe assemble some together into a good-sounding pattern.
Layer together whatever parts the song needs.
Audacity is pretty good to edit sound fast with.
It doesn't matter if it sucks or if it is stupid.
"Quantity over quality" is preferred.
You can always go back and edit or delete something later.
Personally, the music suggests to me what vowels to use.
The vowels suggest the lyrics.
But, that's just me.
If you've already got lyrics, you can make them fit later if you like.
It's a pretty good idea to work alone, at first.
Too many cooks ruin the soup.
But, when you're almost done, you can take the basic skeleton of the song to whomever you're collaborating with and jam on the song together to work out some of the kinks and flesh it out.
They may have some ideas you haven't even thought of.
That's all I've got so far.
It seems to be working for me, lately.
But, I haven't finished anything yet.
That's when I'll know if it has been successful or not.

I know I've said it before but if the song is going to have lyrics the lyrics must be good and they should be the foundation of the song. In fact, if the lyrics are good, they will write the music for you (you just have to listen). I have written some songs from the melody first but they don't seem to turn out as good. Just my two cents.
