I watched the Kennedy Center performances of Led Zeppelin songs last night. I thought they all hit home runs out of the park, Foo Fighters, Lenny Kravitz, Kid Rock, Wilson Sisters etc. The three original members of Led Zep appeared to thoroughly enjoy the performances. It was quite a moving tribute IMO.

I dont know who that gal was that sang that Etta James song with Jeff Beck, but she blew the roof off the place, he should hook up with a chick singer and hit the road and make some hits. I sometimes wonder how he is going to fit in a song, but man he always does!

That was a triple Ace tribute there. It seems Plant/Page/Jones were entirely enthralled at everyone's efforts. Best tribute I ever seen done for a Rock band. Jack Black cracks me up...They couldn't have picked a better person to do the narrative.

It was really epic, I was most pleasantly shocked at the fine performances.

My understanding is that he gets along good with Skynyrd. Or I guess Gary Rossington, since hes the only remaining live member, I dont think it hurt LS any, in fact may have gotten more folks to listen to Sweet Home, again. Good PR on both sides of the coin.

Most all of us have copped licks from folks we look up too. Im sure most of the songs youve written or I have written could be traced back to something before.

Imitation is the sincerest form of plagiarism.

There's a big difference between sampling,copying, and interpreting a tune the way you want to play it. Depends on the version you're listening to. I don't like sampling. Never have. I also don't like duplicating a tune note-for-note. That's what juke boxes are for. Now doing a tune with your own slant on it. That's what I like to do.

Sampling is like any other art form.
Some do it well.
Some are just terrible at it.
Vanilla Ice and MC Hammer come to mind.
Looping a riff from a popular song and saying "I wrote that" is lazy bullsh!t.

The Dust Brothers, who produced Beck and the Beastie Boys, do it really well, creatively.
Daft Punk too.

Kid Rock has no business copying LS. He's not in the same weight class, musically speaking. If he copied RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, he'd be in court quicker than greased lightning.

If I ever copy anyone's music, that will be the lowest I can sink.

And sampling sux. GET YOUR OWN RIFFS/BEATS whatever you feel the need to copy...
