Just curious.
And don't forget to count the first 4-5 songs you ever learned . . .

I was just wondering if folks who like - say, the blues, also like stuff like celtic, or jazz.
Or, if those who like folk also like, say funk . . .
Or if rockers like any pop, or doo-woop, or boogies . . .
Do folks who like "Yes" also like "The Mommas and the Poppas?"

And I was curious if there were folks who always liked a certain style of music, but don't play it because they just never got around to learning it . . .

And how many folks started with a certain style of music for a few years, and then later left that style for good . . .

I like any style that can foster a good song. As you know, for me, a good song is a bad pain that found resolve.

There are a lot of songs that go through motions, but just dont carry the internal tune of resonation... I have know idea what I just said, but it needed to be said....cause the question demands it.

Some songs just have a good groove, which get your feet tapping and head nodding . . .

Some jams can morph through a couple different stlyes of music in one song, which is reall,y realy cool.

I play both kinds, country and western.


I play all different styles, from Bach to blues to Black Sabbath to Cat Stevens. I have acoustics, electrics, 12-strings, basses...if it has strings I will try to pluck them (I said pluck Capt).

Polka, disco, and smooth jazz are abominations.
Tejano, fusion, traditional jazz... Dubious.

I like or tolerate everything else.

I play rock, pop, heavy metal - nothing exciting.

I dig desert music, man

I play jazz, but I really dislike smooth jazz, and I'm not too crazy about New Orleans jazz, either.
If it has a funk or rock-feel to it, I like it better.

Polkas - I heard them when I was growing up; don't need to hear them anymore.

I started with a few rock songs, and heavy metal, actually went through a punk rock stage for a year.
Now - no metal or punk for me.
I can listen to country and Disco, but I won't play it.

Most of what I play is crossovers, with a folk-feel or funk-feel or rock-feel or an (almost) metalish-feel, or jazzy feel . . .
I like a lot of stff . . .

Hard to say. Our music could be lumped under one genre' "label" or divided into many based on opinion.

I enjoy some of our covers but my greatest enjoyment comes from performing our original music well.

And my greatest enjoyment of performing original music is that it may continue to change and grow with us, sometimes from one sub genre' classification into another.

If a song morphs from heavy to melodic or melodic to heavy it's still our song. And no one other than we can say if it is right or wrong.

I know the feeling.
We played in a retirement home last night. At one point a gentleman in his wheelchair wandered into an "unsafe situation" and the 20+ year nurse in me took over.
Distracted, I totally lost track of where I was in the song we were doing.

I'm still trying to figure out what my own music is - I call it metal or hard southern rock but it varies.

for fun I like country - old country, cheating songs and Waylon and crying in my beer stuff. Also like blue grass gospel even though I truly dislike most church style hymns. Go figure.

My other personality likes what I call Classical Metal: Beethovan, Wagner and Bach.

Somehow in the midst of it all - I became a huge Mahavishnu orchestra fan even though I rarely like fusion.

Now it must be time for some Medieval Metal - guess I'll dial up some Subway to Sally!

I have total respect for jazz players, but don't play it.
I'm just not into it. If you aren't into it there's no way to become a good jazz player - difficulty is too high if the passion isn't there to forge ahead

I always liked the CONCEPT of the Grateful Dead more than the actual band.
Mix in some of EVERYTHING.

I try to mix different stuff in my own repertoire.
"Hmmm, what would Captain Beefheart sound like with Black Sabbath and the Bee Gees, being played by a tribe of African pygmies?"
I like doing little thought experiments like that when I'm jamming.
