I'm sorry.
The grammys lost all credibility, to me, when they gave the first Heavy Metal grammy to Jethro Tull over Metallica.
It's just a pointless dick-sucking ceremony where they give each other blowjobs for being popular.

haha true to a point. I don't hate the idea of awards ceremonies. I too was shocked at the Jethro Tull incident, although in hindsight it makes more sense, not that Tull is metal, but that at the time, the old fogies that ran the grammys wouldn't have known metal from the beatles. I'm guessing that after the uproar, they got a clue (iron maiden and megadeth in metal category this year), but they couldn't just go public and admit they screwed up.

And frankly, I laugh at Metallica because of it.. let's be honest, I LOVE their first few albums up to and including the black album, but after that they sucked the big one. Their stance against napster (right or not) hurt them too. But what did it for me was seeing them in concert...

Long story short- No opening band- the opening entertainment was a movie on all the big and small screens in the spectrum.. metallica's biography, in which the movie played parts from every song they ever wrote at that point, including some of the new stuff. After the one-hour metallica masturbation, I pretty much was done listening to their music for the night.

So they came on stage.. proceeded to violently insult philadelphia.. I mean ruthlessly.. called us a bunch of smelly lazy piles of sh1t, dirtbags, our city is filthy and disgusting and it sucks on every level.. What, I came for this?!?

They finally started playing...and only a couple of songs in.. someone threw a rolled-up-sock on the stage, missed Hetfield by about 10 feet, wasn't even close. Personally I wanted to throw sh1t at him too.. but when that happened, he stopped playing, and took his guitar off and threw it down on the stage. He didn't just throw it down, he bodyslammed it like his life depended on it.. way overboard to say the least. He then got on the mic and told the crowd that we were a bunch of a-holes, etc, etc..

After 3-5 minutes of verbal abuse, he stormed off the stage in the same way a petulant child would exit a room after being told NO. The rest of the band minus Lars followed him.

Lars sat at his kit, clearly not knowing what to do. He did a drum solo for 10 minutes. Waited a couple of minutes and when they didn't come out, he did another solo for 15+. Still, they didn't come back. So lars got out from behind his kit and got on the mic and started telling jokes. It was funny at the time, but in hindsight, not really.

All in all, the band came back on about 45 minutes after Hetfields tantrum, and finished their set, and then left. To this day, it was my worst concert experience. So I laugh at Metallica losing an award that they were the only contestant for... karma is a bitch, metallica.

Wow I hadn't heard that story. My son said they suck in concert and he'll never go see them again! He LOVES METAL even the cookie monster vocals!

Oh, I absolutely agree that Metallica are big-time has-been a$$holes.
Over the years they've shown their true colors.
But, at the time of their first grammy nomination, Metallica were still a really good band and they SEEMED like cool guys back then.
It was just absurd that Jethro Tull, who hadn't released an album in years, got the award over Metallica, who had just broken into the mainstream with a platinum album after years of slogging it in the underground.

Just another crappy ass facade where the contestants pat each other on the back and TV stations get big bucks for advertising. There are so many music award shows that they should simply include one with each CD sold. They had an award for the most popular touring band on another one. Pretty soon they will have "Best Roadie", "Best Buss Driver", and "Best Restaurant Food" on the road awards.

. . MEGA BORING

I saw Metallica on the justice tour - they were great.
Master of Puppets changed my life - it is supernaturally good heavy metal. Best metal album ever created.
Ride the lightning - creepy good, just not all the way through.

These days they are just a dead husk of their former selves.
Megadeth is so much better these days, it's not even a contest

If you think Metallica are dead check out "Just a Bullet Away." They've still got it.

Bands go through changes. I'm more of a Megadeth fan myself but like 'em both a lot.

I love Jethro Tull but was astounded that they beat out M. for heavy metal? huh?

I think the grammy award panel/judges felt bad for Ian Anderson cause he basically lost most of his vocal ability due to an operation/surgery on his throat..

They should have an award show for the best award show. Call it the Meaties. Show the best cleavage and semi-exposed butt cheeks from previous shows...Have the viewing audience cast votes...

Maybe the judges were exasperrated at Metallica's work that year and decided that Tull being Tull was better at it than metalica was...Who knows? I know If I though somebody sucked... and there needed to be a winner anyway, I wouldnt give it the the guy that just plain sucked...

I remember that. The judges felt that Metallica was too guteral and not really very "heavy metal".

They should have fired those judges..

And I've seen Metallica in concert via Monsters of Rock.
They have good nights and they have bad nights.
I've seen worse though..Sammy Hagar climbing the rigging and everyone chanting "jump-jump-jump". THAT was embarrassing. lol
