I'm sorry.
The grammys lost all credibility, to me, when they gave the first Heavy Metal grammy to Jethro Tull over Metallica.
It's just a pointless dick-sucking ceremony where they give each other blowjobs for being popular.
haha true to a point. I don't hate the idea of awards ceremonies. I too was shocked at the Jethro Tull incident, although in hindsight it makes more sense, not that Tull is metal, but that at the time, the old fogies that ran the grammys wouldn't have known metal from the beatles. I'm guessing that after the uproar, they got a clue (iron maiden and megadeth in metal category this year), but they couldn't just go public and admit they screwed up.
And frankly, I laugh at Metallica because of it.. let's be honest, I LOVE their first few albums up to and including the black album, but after that they sucked the big one. Their stance against napster (right or not) hurt them too. But what did it for me was seeing them in concert...
Long story short- No opening band- the opening entertainment was a movie on all the big and small screens in the spectrum.. metallica's biography, in which the movie played parts from every song they ever wrote at that point, including some of the new stuff. After the one-hour metallica masturbation, I pretty much was done listening to their music for the night.
So they came on stage.. proceeded to violently insult philadelphia.. I mean ruthlessly.. called us a bunch of smelly lazy piles of sh1t, dirtbags, our city is filthy and disgusting and it sucks on every level.. What, I came for this?!?
They finally started playing...and only a couple of songs in.. someone threw a rolled-up-sock on the stage, missed Hetfield by about 10 feet, wasn't even close. Personally I wanted to throw sh1t at him too.. but when that happened, he stopped playing, and took his guitar off and threw it down on the stage. He didn't just throw it down, he bodyslammed it like his life depended on it.. way overboard to say the least. He then got on the mic and told the crowd that we were a bunch of a-holes, etc, etc..
After 3-5 minutes of verbal abuse, he stormed off the stage in the same way a petulant child would exit a room after being told NO. The rest of the band minus Lars followed him.
Lars sat at his kit, clearly not knowing what to do. He did a drum solo for 10 minutes. Waited a couple of minutes and when they didn't come out, he did another solo for 15+. Still, they didn't come back. So lars got out from behind his kit and got on the mic and started telling jokes. It was funny at the time, but in hindsight, not really.
All in all, the band came back on about 45 minutes after Hetfields tantrum, and finished their set, and then left. To this day, it was my worst concert experience. So I laugh at Metallica losing an award that they were the only contestant for... karma is a bitch, metallica.
