Thanks Jahva, Jeff... You guys are right...I was just having a moment!.. I guess it will cost more dollars... But I gotta do that, then my best bet is to take it to a studio and assume the position...

The thing is that it sounds okay on head phones. I don't understand that...

The music thang is a racket, I tell ya...

Now you know why I am trying to learn to record and produce my own music! I don't even let other musicians play on my recordings. I am however going to have our drummer in Mission Imposter do the drums thru a file sharing kind of thing. My goal is to have all that up and running by early spring. Meanwhile I have My hard disk recorder that I am writing songs to record as we speak! All I need is software $200.00 interface $200.00. ALL I think about is how to get better guitar tone, become a better musician and singer, write better songs, learn how to become a better recording engineer, producer, arranger. Hopefully someday I'll be better at it all!

huh, all this time I thought those well mastered tunes on your page were home recordings?..guess I have not been here long enough to know otherwise..

Dane are you being serious or sarcastic? LOL! All the songs on my player that have original next to them are all me. No one else was involved period. I have a hard disk recorder, it literally handles all facets of recording from concept, to mastering. I bought it in 2003. I am in the process of going full pc recording. I have the studio sound tuned just like a "million dollar studio" on a smaller scale. this room sounds so good it will blow your mind. I use to Love to play my acoustic thru my system with headphones. This room sounds so freakin good acoustically. I don't need a mic processors NOTHING. I guess I need to take some pics and post them! I can't wait to start recording in this room again. Being that I am a master carpenter. I can pretty much build any type of room. All that coupled with the fact I have been a performing, recording, musician for over 30 years. basically I have friends that have built MANY studios. I researched thru them and really had a LOT of luck. All I need are 2 more items and I'm set. Meanwhile I am busy doing all the other things I have listed. I am methodically taking the steps toward that end.

Bob, Johnny, Glenny ...everybody... The BM Player doesn't support WMA (which is ripped from a CDA ) I'm trying to figure out how to rip to a wav, and / or MP3..(Lost my settings for that)... I will post and let yo guys know when its up.

oh, I thought they were done in a professional recording studio, based on you saying you need the 200.00 software and the 200.00 interface yet ..the way you worded it was you were working on getting a studio together.. I knew you were the only guy playing on the ones with ORIGINAL to the side, so what hard disc recorder do you use?

when I go to people's BM pages and listen to their music I am always wondering what gear they used to record it? most people's pages never say whether it was done at a professional studio or a home studio.. the people I think I know about is Slacker's stuff which is done with his own gear, cause he offered to help me get up and running rather than paying out the nose.. MikeB has his own gear, JimmyD has a professional studio he can use at great rates.. as far as all the rest of you, never have said, or I was not hanging around here at this board long enough to know.. not that it matters though

I am the type of guy that NEVER stops thinking of ways to improve EVERYTHING! A result of working with Engineering Professors for a living. My plan is to spend the winter of which I have so much paid time off frankly it would just piss you guys off! I plan to take advantage of this time learning and re-familiarizing myself with this system. All the while writing and recording more of my originals. This should prepare me for the learning curve of the new P.C. based system I WILL have by the end of January. Of course this is all based on the presumption the health of an old fat bastard with a mullet holds up Good Lord Willing!

The new system will do that same thing. I know that looks intimidating but there is very little difference. That recording console you show in that video is not much more complicated than my live mixer. It just has more input channels. I ain't skeered!

Sorry Grant, I did not mean to hijack your thread. Just wanted to clarify what I was using! this BR1180 is seriously outdated just ask MikeB. He is the one that convinced me to make the change!

You know how it feels when a newbie comes in here thinking he's "all that" but then you hear his recordings and it's obvious he's been playing guitar for like about 2 years?

I have a nice home studio. I would NEVER use anything I've done here on an album. Dawg, I tried to tell ya. If it's worth doing, you might as well do it right.

Yes, you can create a good sounding demo...maybe even sell it at gigs. But studios are expensive because they have the best equipment run by people who have spent their lives learning the science of recording. Again, there are no shortcuts to greatness. Let the excellent specialists do their job.

My advice for any/all of you is to be specialists in what is most important for your goals; songwriter and/or performance and then hire specialists to record that, specialists to master it, and specialists to manufacture the finished product.

If you want to run a recording studio, spend all your time on that instead of music. I know many a great musician who went that direction. They hardly ever play live anymore. Their instrument took the back seat.

Believe it or not, it's always better to spend whatever it takes because after you've spent a lot of money, you want something that sounds great, right?

Not something that's "OK" and you have to make excuses to every person you play it for.

That said, if it wasn't recorded badly there are ways of improving the mix and mastering. My guess is that the whole process was less-than-broadcast-quality, so a new mix will still sound cheap....only clearer.

1/4" reel to reel tape machine? one of Mahavishnu Orchestra's albums was recorded on a 1/4" reel to reel machine.. the album after Birds of Fire I think
