Just bought the Shure PGX Beta 87a wireless mic - Fantastic and best purchase ever for this female vocalist.

This uses channel 70.

I am concerned that next year I may have interference problems if I don't move to channel 38 - would this actually have any significant benefits or, indeed, problems of its own?

Channel 38 needs a licence however currently at £75 per year - not a problem but don't want to pay this if not necessary.

Does anyone have any clear info or advice as there is a minefield of info out there and I feel my thoughts becoming all warm and fuzzy with all that techie talk!

Hi Lorrie,

You contacted me on joinmyband a few days ago and i will respond on there but to answer your question:

Channel 70 is not changing. It is a free (consumer really) band for all things wireless and sometimes called 863-865. It will remain free and is not that likely to be too congested as most new wireless devices are on the 2.4GHz band (wifi etc).

The change affects Channel 69. This is just below Ch70 but is the licensed radio mic band. It is in the area that 4G phones will occupy and so is being moved to Channel 38.

There is some chance that Ch70 may suffer some interference from 4G but it is unlikely to be a big issue unless you have you phone in your pocket.
