I went to GC yesterday and sat down with a LP and a Orange Tiny Terror head, the black one, not the Jim Root model.

This little head was awesome is all I can say. I set the tone at 1 oclock, the gain at 1 oclock and the volume whereever you wanted it, and it just had this great lead tone. I had it in 7 watt mode, and it was running in a little Orange cab, not sure what speaker was in there, but we turned that little bad boy up and it got extremely loud, as in the guitars were shaking on the wall. You could just hold a note and it would sustain forever.

Of course I went home and fired up my trusty Mesa and decided I didnt need the Orange amp, but if someone doesnt have an amp, wants something simple, I think the price was $649, but they have some coupons available that will knock $75 off of it, if you dont have a nice little amp, then this might be your ticket, the thing handled drop D tuning, and if you wanted to clean up your sound, you just roll off the volume on the guitar.

Just thought I would mention this amp on here, if someone is looking for a tone machine for Christmas, the Orange Tiny Terror might be your ticket to tonal bliss.

That's good to know.
I was thinking of getting a Sunn Beta Lead.
But, it's getting hard to find good deals on them.

I usually play in "Drop-A" on my guitars.
I play bass & guitar through the same setup.
I split my signal 3 ways; high & dirty through a guitar amp/preamp, clean & low through a bass amp/preamp, effects direct to mixer via Line 6 POD.

Thanks JW.

Another possibility is the MARSHALL CLASS 5.

Simple straight forward 5 watt class A amplification.

Worth at least a look see listen . . . if you can find one.

George the Marshall didnt impress me as much as the Tiny Terror. It sounds good, and I know that Marshalls are the go to sound, in fact I try to emulate a JCM 800 with my Mesa, but the Marshall just didnt have the lower end and sustainability that the Terror had to my ears.

I just thought it had an awesome lead tone, but its just my opinion, being a Mesa man I checked out the Mini Recto, but to my ears the Tiny Terror just rips. Plus as I said you can lower the volume control on the guitar and get a pretty good clean tone.

On my Triple Rec I dialed in a very similiar tone to the tiny terror, I used the vintage mode to get it. The Terror would be awesome for a lower volume situation, but it suprised me when I opened it up, Im sure it would sound huge thru a 4x12.

Its really amazing these days the amps that are available and the tones they get, even these smaller cheaper amps.

I wouldnt have written this if the Tiny Terror didnt really get my attention, if I had no amp and wanted an amp in this size, I dont think I could do any better than the Terror, they make a Jim Root model that has a little more controls on it, extra eq and I think it even has an effects loop. But I think I could do a gig with a 4x12, the Tiny Terror and one of my LPS and just sound awesome.

Now there is an amp I hadn't heard anything about in forever. I used to have one of those Beta Leads back in the late 70's early 80's that thing just sounded awesome! 8)

That's good to know. None of my local shops carry the CLASS 5 . . . I purchased it based on on line demos sight unseen.

I'll have to check out that TT some time.

I had a buddy that had a SUNN Beta in a combo form, it was great sounding for a SS amp.

I still have my old SUNN MODEL T, in fact I fired it up the other night, that thing is a beast. 180 watts tube, it doesnt have the gain of the newer breed of amps, but it can get so loud, and its a clean sort of loud if that makes sense, has a plexi vibe to it. But its totally unuseable to me these days.

I have an old SUNN / FENDER PA . . . we used it for several years as the drum amp.
Got to acting funny so our bassist took it home and cleaned the dirt dauber nests out of it.
Still functions to this day

One of these days I'm going to search for parts and refurbish that old head.
I have a lot of equipment I need to sell. But it's difficult to part with your children. ( besides I might NEED that some day ) LMAO

Got one! Yes if you are looking for authentic British crunch in a small package the Tiny Terror will get it done. It's plenty loud enough to run with a drummer so it makes a nice mini-stack for someone looking for that meaty rock guitar sound.

I got mine a few years ago for a specific project where I needed heavy guitar but I tend to be more of an old school Fender/Mesa guy so I may sell the Orange. If you use a lot of Van Halen, AC/DC tones and don't want to drag around a stack this amp is for you.

Here is what she sounds like:

Johnny, do you have the white faced one?

I played on it, but I liked the black faced one. It just had more of that singing lead tone that just melts me. Its one of the few amps that Ive set down with that made me want to play.

It must have sounded good to some other people, cause I gathered a crowd to listen while I was putting it thru my tone test.

Mine is the original white face and I have not used the black face. Often I will let guest guitarists play through the Orange and everyone says the same thing. "This amp ROCKS!"
