I just heard on the local news that one of the Dakotas are writing legislation for teachers AND JANITORS to carry concealed weapons in schools.

Finally, some common sense legislation.

Now personality considerations and the likes should be required just as if they were entering the police dept. I also heard today that one of these school killers drove a great distance to attack a school where guns were prohibited. Some teachers carried in his area so he drove hundreds of miles away to commit the crime in a no gun state. Gee Go figure. Wonder why the news media isn't all over that.

I also heard that the gunman who killed all the kids stopped when he saw a gun pointed at him, and not before. He immediately shot himself, as you are aware.

So I would assume that guns in the schools ARE a real deterrent even to cowardly mass executioners. As long as a would be murderer is aware of the that fact that teachers carry in their schools.

I also heard a short time ago on the news that this jerk broke into the school as is in lock down while classes are in session. Evidently he wanted to avoid security. How much more would he have void the school if he didn't know how many guns were on the side of the victims.

One thing to remember. Crime is lower in carry states, and higher in non carry states. By the way, how many bad guys have tried to take over a police station or rob one in the last 80 years? Most cowards will always pick the easy target.

Well Switzerland was one of the countries shown in the 'statistics' for the argument of how gun bans work.
Problem is, if you read it, they pretty much have the opposite of "gun bans".

Where's THAT argument?
Where is the argument about identifying persons displaying psychological problems BEFORE they go apesh!t in a school full of kids?

Mike, I agree. Right now, the issue of mental health is so "un-sexy" to the washington elite, that they will yawn at the mention of it. Its that way cause there is no money to be made on mental health care. They cant perpetuate research for it like that can with Cancer research...hence no revenue streams. You see, the brain is a finite and identifiable instrument of the body, and the cures /treatments are straight-forward (with stem cell research) . Thus funding is finite and will eventually come to an end). (Not so with cancer, though).

I staunchly believe that this guy who shot up these kids, should NOT have been allowed to freely roam... There is a lot of different types of mental illness... Some of which are reliably predictable. I suspect most sociopaths and/ or psychopaths are reliably dangerous and should not be free citizens. That is the only real way to ensure safety of society. FOr the record, this guy could have killed people with a shovel... Its the guy...not the tool

The problem being that even his mother who took three rounds in the face was unaware of his homicidal tendencies. You can lock up every person in America deemed to be unstable by some and that would not stop this from happening again. How many times have "Normal, friendly, likable neighbors committed atrocities after an earth shattering event in their lives? Such as a messy divorce, or loosing everything in the stock market, or having their business go bankrupt. How about all the post office assassins of the past? You can go on and on about locking up or monitoring the mentally ill, but just how many mass murderers fall into that category? Not that many from what I have seen through the years.

If a person wants to kill some one he will either get a gun on the black market or steal one. In fact, he doesn't need a gun. You can kill a person just by jamming a fork in his neck. People in prison find all manner of weapons to kill each other. They're locked up so what's the problem there? Perhaps we should ban water to keep people from drowning and so forth. Certainly we should ban cars. They kill a good many people in the hands of distracted people texting and so forth, drunk drivers, careless drivers... get the point? Even if you banned everything but the clothes on our backs someone would strangle someone with a "T" shirt or whatever.The problem is corporate guilt as it makes no single person accountable for his actions in this society. If we lived in a naked society, for our protection, naturally, people would kill people with rocks, their bare hands or tree branches used as clubs. Personal morality and accountability are the issues that need addressed.

This is about making citizens who believe in our republic and the constitution defenseless against the tyrants now in power that are too cowardly to go into full tyranny mode as long as those who love this country are armed.

That's right. Switzerland doesn't have an army, the ARE an army.


It is mandatory to own a gun in Switzerland, and fully automatic weapons are issued by the government. They can mobile the entire nation into a well-armed force in a matter of hours, and have one of the lowest crimes rates on Earth.

That is how they have remained neutral in World Wars...no one is capable of a successful invasion of Switzerland. Geographically, Iran is also un-invadable but if their citizens had weapons we wouldn't be dealing with crazed mullahs right now, because the people would have already overthrown the current totalitarian government.

You cannot compare Switzerland to the US.. go there and as soon as you step off the plane you'll know why. There are no ghettos, no trailer parks, it's perhaps the cleanest country in the world, and they have an extremely disclipline population and culture, very very different from the US. You absolutely cannot compare the US and Switzerland.

Switzerland has a militia that consists of every able-bodied adult male between the ages of 20-30 (34 for officers), all of which have mandatory military training (a year I think), and yes they all have their military issued rifles, but they do NOT have ammunition! As of 2007 the government recalled all ammunition, so while they all have weapons they are unable to fire them. The Swiss are very proud that they can fully mobilize their militia within 24 hours and every adult male member knows exactly where he is to report in the event of an emergency. The Swiss also have excellent gun controls in place, and weapons permits must be obtained and these permits allow individuals to have up to 3 guns, and individuals must be over the age of 18, have no psychological issues (that would pose a threat to themselves or others), and they must have a clean criminal record and there is no open carry
