when Obama interrupted the Patriots 49ers game tonight, with his speech , he really wanted to say, I want your guns everybody, but could not quite say it, anybody remember Bernhard Goetz, the "Subway Vigilante".. a gun saved him from getting mugged or worse..

I had that thought as one of many that have been running through my head.
Like 'opposite day' on Seinfeld.
Issue every non felon, non mentally ill adult a firearm.
For a couple years there would probably be senseless shootings and plenty of accidents - but it would eventually equalize and you'd have a very respectful society. (Except for on the Internet)

Technically 'assault rifles' have always been illegal to own without a special permit. They are still illegal.
An assault rifle is a high capacity "switchable" rifle - they can be set for semi auto or Fully automatic.

Guns aren't the problem, people are the problem (as evidenced by this thread).

'Momma Lanza' seems like she was none too stable (the ex-husband hasn't come forward, as far as I can see), loves guns, takes her son with obvious mental issues to the gun range? Then makes it easy to get into her stash of weapons and blow her away.
Families and the government have to start taking responsibility for ensuring that those with mental illness are cared for and kept away from harming themselves and others.
Have you seen that 'I am Adam Lanza's Mother' thing going around? I don't know if its real or not, but a 9-year-old who threatens family with knives shoudln't be allowed to 'live a normal life' - when siblings have an 'escape plan' to hide in a locked car, mother hides all the knives in a tupperware box she takes with her - that's not a solution, its a stop-gap, and eventually that 9 year old will be 14 or 16 or 20 and have access to other weapons and the family with a 'plan' won't be there and others will be hurt.

The guns aren't the problem, the people are.

That loser should have just blown the top of his head off and got it over with.
The minute that you feel like you might want to shoot an innocent is the right time to give yourself a new blow hole in the top of your skull.

If that principle had a gun on her, she may be alive today and also lowered the death count from the deal that happened, I think there should be armed guards in schools, that way losers like this shooter would be too scared to step in the school knowing someone might get him first.

There are teachers in the South who could do the job but over all - we're screwed.

And now, in a triumph of illogical thinking, having seen how at risk we and our kids are when we're unable to defend ourselves, some geniuses would disarm honest folks. I don't think so gentlemen. Not today. Not ever.

There are more than enough stable teachers to make sure some of them are armed. They could take police evaluation tests and some training, those passing should be armed.

El Dictator Light may use his illegal powers as before through dictator edicts to ban them... or even destroy our constitutional rights. Why not? He has ignored our constitutional rights in other areas. After all, honest law abiding constitution upholding citizens are a threat to him and his cause as long as we have guns.

I heard on the radio this morning: so if the school is not longer a viable target to the mentally-challenged sicko, they go to the mall, or the grocery store, or the Registry of Motor Vehicles, or a Day Care facility or ....

So pretty soon everyone's armed and ready to shoot now, ask questions later.

Last week the cops were all over the place two towns away because a couple of people "saw" a guy with a rifle in the median strip of the highway (wooded area) and called into 911.
Cops had helicopters, cruisers on the overpasses, searching for hours with nothing seen.
Finally some guy with better eyes reported he had seen a man with an SUV parked into the median and he was carrying a piece of a roofrack that had come off his vehicle. Yeah, if you looked out of the corner of your eye, and were only half paying attention while listening to talk radio and drinking your coffee, it could have been a rifle. And if these people had a gun, they could pull over and shoot the guy, 'just in case'.
