There are plenty of jobs, just no qualified candidates because corporate America does not train anyone anymore, and because college kids get useless degrees. I get called everyday by recruiters who are desperate to fill jobs that go wanting. This is why we allow so many work visas.

Exactly! The Irony is that the workers on Visas aren't quite there on the rythym of US standards... (I deal with a lot of folks, offshore ) They are put in charge of units/departments...They don't necessarily know how to parlay knowledge back to US workers.
I recently implemented a training standards program, where I work. Its geared on developing and delivering curriculum that surrounds Apps dev, systems and DB designing, etc, for a group-paced environment. It necessarily forces the instructors to take on the role of mentors, beyond the classroom. It took me about 4 years to convince my bosses that they need this... This year, They finally agreed. (After they found a no-cost method to implement it)
