I got bitten by a big "desert spider" about a week ago now.

I thought it was just going to be a "wait and heal" type thing.

So I went to my usual session and laid tracks with Les and Sven.
(Les was very nice and didn't even mention it, although it was the size of a small racquetball on the right side of my jaw near the hinge.)

A few days later it swelled even worse and we figured it was infected.

At this point I started to panic a little as I had tried hydrogen peroxide, ammonia, isopropyl alcohol, Merthiolate, cortisone and even an anti-histamine to combat the swelling...nothing worked.

So anyway, I went over to my friends' house (Tim and Hanna) and Hanna told me of an example where something similar had happened and the dr. had treated it with a mild steroid (progesterone).

Now I didn't have any steroids to try and I spoke with her further and she mentioned a holistic remedy that sometimes helps with swelling and infection, namely GARLIC.

You take a piece of garlic, cut a large slice out of the middle of the individual piece and stick it directly on the affected area where it will draw poison(s) out and/or reduce swelling.

I didn't think too much about it until I tried it. I put a large flat cut piece on the wound on my jaw and crossed 2 band-aids over it to hold it securely in place.

Well some 48 hours later, it's a whole different ballgame because the swelling is nearly gone and so is the infection, if I had one.

I merely changed the bandage every 24 hours with a fresh piece of garlic and it burned like a sob but it did work very well.

I recommend it and would do it again given the same circumstance of swelling and possible infection.

(Thank you Hanna and Tim)

Don't mess with Lou Reed ... even if he don't kung-fu you, he still might bite you!

LOL Scotty...what on earth kind of desert spider are you talking about? BTW, dont trey the garlic thing if you get bit by a Brown Recluse...Instead, get to a hospital. Otherwise, That bite will necrotize and leave a permanent moon- crater in the flesh where the bite occured.

Yeah, what kind of desert spiders do you get in New Jersey?! Good cure - if you;re not allergic to garlic (like I am!) If my wife roasts garlic in our house (got her one of those little roaster devices to do it a couple of years ago), just the remaining 'juices' in the air hours later will have me itching all over!

Glad it worked for you. Next time get to a frickin' doctor when it happens!

lol It was my buddy's "exotic pet"....idk what kind of spider.

The mfer has an iguana, a boa constrictor and other strange things including a piranha and a beta fighting fish.

He pulls it out and right off the bat I was scared and wanted to stomp it flat as a pancake. He says, "it won't hurt you, maaan".

He sticks it on my arm and within a second or so the bastard ran right up my arm and bit me on the right side of my jaw.

I was so freaked I screamed like a young girl and it hurt when it bit me.

I was going to kill it dead and he grabbed the little bastard and put it back in it's fish tank.

I was like, "let's boil it on the stove". He got all afraid and I told him if I had any complications, I would be calling him.

Needless to say, he has been otherwise unreachable since.
What he forgot was he left his bongos at my place.

"Thanks for the drums, RICHARD". Next time I see him, he better run.

(You know what's between my toes? Slow running spiders and d-bag friends that do a disappearing act when you need them most.)

If Hanna hadn't told me about that garlic trick, I might be in some serious trouble about now.

PS: Not a brown recluse, thank you lord..

I hate all exotic pets..cook em, make hat's, shoes or just stomp em into a mud hole.. idc for any of em.. (sweeping arm motion) lol

And I can't go to the doctor, no medical. That's why I learned to make penicillin. (really)

Don't laugh, that thing left 2 marks on me that if had been a little lower would have looked exactly like a vampire bite.

That is until my whole face blew up like a bloated pumpkin.

The poison I can deal with, the swelling and itching were enough to drive me more insane than the present. (wowo)

A guy I used to know at work kept lots of pet spiders.
He had a Goliath Bird Eater.
He fed it other spiders.

Nah it was tan but it was thinner than that.

If that bastard came near me, I would have had to end it's nasty life right there..

It didn't look dangerous or anything. It wasn't even big like a black widow.

And it wasn't a brown recluse because I know what that looks like..

I'm just glad it's winding down..the swelling had me going for a bit.

If there is something that bites, it will BITE me! All others around me are safe, this is completely true, and verbally documented. Did you know that the good old Daddy Long Legs has killing power? Well it has, the trouble is that it cannot penetrate human skin. (YET). Wasps love Daddy Long legs but they also love me, as do Horse Flies, Spiders, and all manner of stinging or biting beast.

Mind, Dogs love me, as do my brethren, the Cat's, the Goats on the mountain, the cows, one horse that sucked my arm with his teeth and tasted my flesh. Never trusted horses, but he changed my mind. I just gave him my arm, and he took it. Lovely feeling.

An Eagle flew by some weeks ago, and a Woodpecker tells me the news. As does stray Doggy on the street. There's always been a bird of prey, and I've been so lucky to see many just a few feet away. (That's TRUE).

And to the little bird that danced his way down the train station one day, almost on the eve of something new. I wish him well in his new place too.
Because he must have flown by now.

Anyone who remembers me, will remember the Roosters who circled my house! :D And those that lived in the tree, the 9 Peacocks that slept and kept watch over night, even in the coldest of cold.
Maybe I should just roll over and let them walk all over me?

After all............ It seems the biggest bite comes from human kind.

Yours,

Chipfryer
