I got bitten by a big "desert spider" about a week ago now.
I thought it was just going to be a "wait and heal" type thing.
So I went to my usual session and laid tracks with Les and Sven.
(Les was very nice and didn't even mention it, although it was the size of a small racquetball on the right side of my jaw near the hinge.)
A few days later it swelled even worse and we figured it was infected.
At this point I started to panic a little as I had tried hydrogen peroxide, ammonia, isopropyl alcohol, Merthiolate, cortisone and even an anti-histamine to combat the swelling...nothing worked.
So anyway, I went over to my friends' house (Tim and Hanna) and Hanna told me of an example where something similar had happened and the dr. had treated it with a mild steroid (progesterone).
Now I didn't have any steroids to try and I spoke with her further and she mentioned a holistic remedy that sometimes helps with swelling and infection, namely GARLIC.
You take a piece of garlic, cut a large slice out of the middle of the individual piece and stick it directly on the affected area where it will draw poison(s) out and/or reduce swelling.
I didn't think too much about it until I tried it. I put a large flat cut piece on the wound on my jaw and crossed 2 band-aids over it to hold it securely in place.
Well some 48 hours later, it's a whole different ballgame because the swelling is nearly gone and so is the infection, if I had one.
I merely changed the bandage every 24 hours with a fresh piece of garlic and it burned like a sob but it did work very well.
I recommend it and would do it again given the same circumstance of swelling and possible infection.
(Thank you Hanna and Tim)
