Not so long ago I was feeling pretty bummed. Getting old, slowing down, blah blah.
Then I saw a special on Dave Brubeck (I'd seen him perform back in the seventies) and the old rascal was 90 and had just written an oratorio and was going on tour.
I thought then, and now, "Thank you Dave!" God love you.

going out at 91 (just a cpl of days short of 92) and still playing.....that's reward for a life well lived. he was just a beautiful human being.
i'm gonna have to pull out my ken burns "jazz" documentary and find the episode that featured D.B.
there's also a cpl of great D.B. bits on the Gerry Mulligan DVD "Age Of Steam"....i highly recommend that one, it's a great watch that chronicles G.M's career w lots of great footage.
it kicks off w mulligan and brubeck hanging out and db asks "if you could play anything you'd like, what'd it be?" and mulligan kicks off "Things Ain't What They used To Be".
